‘Moonbase 8’ is a space-themed sitcom, helmed by the team (Fred Armisen, Jonathan Krisel, Tim Heidecker, and John C. Reilly) behind the sketch comedy, ‘Portlandia.’ It is about a trio of terribly subpar astronauts who have their eyes set on the moon. They ‘quarantine’ themselves within a remote mock space site. The eccentric bunch, all with their respective quirky nicknames, replicates the challenges they would possibly encounter on a moon base.
With an understated tone, ‘Moonbase 8’ does not dive into the momentous nature of space exploration, but it concentrates on the smaller, intimate details. And this is exactly what makes the comedy an interesting watch. If you wish to know more about the show, we have you covered!
Moonbase 8 Season 1 Release Date:

Moonbase 8 Cast: Who is in it?
John C. Reilly stars as Cap (Robert Caputo), a deadbeat dad in a failed marriage. Cap has tried his hands in a business that landed in failure as well. So now he seeks redemption by trying his luck in space travel. Cap happens to be a former helicopter tour pilot who introduces himself as a military veteran. Fred Armisen essays the character of Dr. Michael Henai AKA Skip, an astronaut’s son. For Skip, it has always been difficult to live under the shadow of his successful dad. Now, he attempts to carry the legacy forward, but he does not have the needed qualifications.
Tim Heidecker plays Professor Scott Sloan AKA Rook, a Christian who has one goal – spread Jesus Christ’s gospel in the universe. Rook has previously toured the country with a rock band. However, currently, he is devoted to responding to a higher calling. Rounding up the cast is Travis Kelce as himself and Thomas Mann.
Moonbase 8 Plot: What is it About?
‘Moonbase 8’ tells the story of three woefully underqualified and subpar astronauts who harbor a deep passion to be chosen on the next moon travel. To prepare themselves, the trio reaches the isolated desert of Winslow, Arizona, at NASA’s Moon Base Simulator. The hopeful astronauts, namely, Skip, Cap, and Rook, get ready for their first lunar mission. When they train themselves under the leadership of Cap, they face multiple unexpected situations. As the days go by, the threesome begins doubting their own sanity, the ability to trust one another, and if they are built for space travel.
Jana Winograde, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc., expressed how the series is a timely addition to 2020s special roster of programming – “In a year when we have all been forced to come to terms with life in close quarters, we are happy to have landed this offbeat take on life in captivity with dreams of escaping to something grander. While the show was produced before the pandemic, its subject matter is timely – and thanks to Fred, Tim, John, and Jonathan, its humor is timeless.”
