After a rather dull Season 2, USA Network’s hacker drama, ‘Mr. Robot’, came back with a bang in Season 3, leaving fans eagerly waiting for Season 4. To fans’ relief, USA Network officially renewed ‘Mr. Robot’ just before Season 3’s finale aired back in December 2017, with show creator Sam Esmail later taking to Instagram to reveal that writing had already begun for the new episodes. On the other hand, to fans’ dismay, USA Network also announced that Season 4 would be the final season of ‘Mr. Robot’. Here’s everything we know about Mr. Robot Season 4.
Mr. Robot Cast: Who is in it?
Quite simply, it wouldn’t be ‘Mr. Robot’ without Rami Malek and Christian Slater as Elliot Alderson and his dead father/alternate persona respectively, so of course they’re guaranteed to make a return in Season 4. Season 3 did, however, see the end of the road for a couple of major characters like Tyrell’s wife Joanna Wellick (played by Stephanie Corneliussen) and Elliot’s fsociety co-members Trenton (played by Sunita Mani) and Mobley (played by Azhar Khan).
The other major characters all survived Season 3, so expect to see Elliot’s sister Darlene (played by Carly Chaikin), Elliot’s childhood friend Angela Moss (played by Portia Doubleday), Tyrell (played by Martin Wallström), E Corp CEO Phillip Price (played by Michael Cristofer), Dark Army leader Whiterose (played by BD Wong) and FBI agent Dom DiPierro (played by Grace Gummer) in Season 4.
Season 3’s post-credits scene also saw the return of Season 1 character Fernando Vera (played by Elliot Villar), who had brutally murdered Elliot’s girlfriend Shayla, so you can expect him to play quite an important role in the upcoming Season 4. “We’ll definitely explore the blowback from all of that with her murder and how Elliot assisted in breaking Vera out of prison,” Esmail has teased.
Less clear is whether we’ll be seeing the menacing Dark Army stooge, Irving (played by Bobby Cannavale), again after he killed FBI agent Santiago (played by Omar Metwally) in the Season 3 finale. However, Esmail had given fans a glimmer of hope earlier, saying, “If there’s an opportunity to work with him again, I’ll do that.”
Mr. Robot Plot: What is it about?
The main arc of Season 3 was about whether or not Elliot could undo the hack of 5/9 and the damage done to E Corp’s data. The season finale, however, made it seem like Elliot was successful in doing so, despite all efforts taken by the Dark Army to stop him. In the finale of Season 3, it looked like Elliot and Darlene would be killed by the Dark Army’s feared assassin, Leon (played by Joey Bada$$). However, Whiterose changed her mind and spared Elliot and Darlene, probably to keep them around for doing the Dark Army’s bidding in future.
That said, Whiterose probably has more than one enemy to worry about now. Angela was so convinced she was doing the right thing with Stage Two, until the Dark Army pulled their devastating move of blowing up 71 E Corp buildings, killing thousands. As if that wasn’t enough, the Season 3 finale also saw Angela discover that her boss and E Corp’s CEO, Phillip Price, was actually her father, so Season 4 is likely to see the two team up to take down Whiterose.
That said, the Dark Army has moves of its own to make in Season 4, with Dom potentially being forced to become their new inside agent in the FBI after the death of FBI agent Santiago. “Dom is at a crossroads. She’s the most noble character to her cause in the entire series. She’s now in with the Dark Army in this brutal way and we’re going to see the aftereffects of that,” Esmail has said about Dom. Apart from Esmail’s teasers about Season 4, fans also have another reason to be excited.
In a recent, exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight, Oscar winner Rami Malek dropped a massive hint about the conclusion of ‘Mr. Robot’. Speaking to the news magazine, Malek said, “[Christian Slater and I] both got a call from Sam Esmail, our director, executive producer, creator, and my mouth was agape after he told me how the season ended. So, it’s going to be a very, very, climatic ending to what I think has been four great seasons of television. I’m gonna miss Elliot quite a bit.”
Mr. Robot Season 4 Release Date: When will it premiere?
‘Mr Robot’ season 3 premiered on October 11, 2019. Esmail had always spoken of a five-season run for ‘Mr. Robot’, with Season 3 marking the end of act two, as if the show was a drama. “The plan was that basically toward the end of act two, he [Elliot] would reverse what he did, but still kind of be in a position of now pivoting and targeting the real top one percent that orchestrated the 5/9 hack behind his back,” he had told Entertainment Weekly earlier. However, it appears that Esmail has had to scrap his plans to extend ‘Mr. Robot’ to five seasons, and the intense hacker drama will have season 4 as its last season.
‘Mr. Robot’ season 4 is all set to release on October 6, 2019. Don’t forget to mark your calendars.
