‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ is the first spinoff of the incredibly successful ‘NCIS‘ franchise. The premise remains similar to that of its predecessor, with the primary difference being in the location. It follows the undercover agents of the Office of Special Projects (OSP), which is an elite segment of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
The action-packed police procedural drama has progressed to define its own personality, especially because of its character-driven storylines. Packed with gunfights and street-smart intellect, the series has successfully maintained its position among the top-rated CBS shows over the years. 11 seasons in and counting, here’s all we know about ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ season 12.
NCIS: Los Angeles Season 12 Release Date
‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ season 11 premiered on September 29, 2019, on CBS. After spanning 22 episodes, it came to a rushed end on April 26, 2020. Yes, it was cut short by two episodes because of filming coming to a forced halt due to the 2019-20 COVID-19 pandemic.
Episode 22, titled ‘Code of Conduct’ was not meant to be the 11th outing’s conclusion. Moreover, its storyline was meant to span two episodes. The make-shift finale follows Sam, Callen, and Rountree as they reach Afghanistan, following the accusations by two SEALs that their chief murdered an unarmed prisoner. The investigation is complicated and since it was meant as a two-part arc, one episode does not do justice in covering the whole story.
So, does this mean that the incomplete plotline will be carried forward in the premiere episode of the next season? We strongly believe so. Fans deserve close-ended answers to their questions and even the characters need proper closures for their arcs. Moreover, you would be elated to know that CBS has already given a go-ahead to the show for its next outing! And the news is not a surprise.
In terms of numbers, ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ season 11 had averaged a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic and had drawn around 6.5 million viewers per episode. The figures might have declined a bit if you compare them with those of season 10. But the show still remains as one of the most-watched titles on CBS.
Now, as far as the release date goes, can expect ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ season 12 to release sometime in 2021. Yes, it’s unlikely that the show will return this year — thanks again to the global health crisis that has brought the whole of Hollywood to a standstill.
