Netflix Drops ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 Trailer

Netflix‘s ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 finally dropped a full-length trailer after having released a teaser earlier. The series, created by the Duffer brothers, is kicking things up a notch, by introducing new threats and even bigger monsters from the Upside Down, while testing the very fabric of friendship that we saw over the two seasons.

The trailer starts off with Dustin’s homecoming party where the plan to surprise him goes horribly wrong as he pepper sprays Lucas. The funny start soon gives way to The Who’s ‘Baba O’Riley’ playing in the background as we are introduced to the main characters, who are all grown up now by the way, and the entire town of Hawkins. We are reintroduced to Max, who first appeared in Season 2, along with the protagonists from Season 1, Lucas, Dustin, Will, Mike, and Eleven. Nancy and Steve seem to be looking for jobs, which Steve finds at an ice cream parlor in the new Starcourt Mall. Max’s brother Billy, also returns from Season 2 and takes up the role of a lifeguard in a very ‘Baywatch‘ like scenario. While the entire town prepares to celebrate the fourth of July, we see Chief Hopper try to work things with Winona Ryder‘s character, Joyce. What is most striking amidst all of this is how old the children have grown and how this tests their friendships. Notably, it appears that Dustin and Will are left out in the cold as Max and Lucas, and Mike and Eleven are happily in the throes of love. Mike even harshly comments at one point of the trailer, “We’re not kids anymore. I mean what did you think, we’re just gonna sit in my basement all day and play games for the rest of our lives?”.

While they might not be kids anymore, they still have a lot of growing up to do if they hope to survive the menacing looking killer that the trailer showed, holding a silenced handgun and looking eerily like he stepped out of ‘The Terminator‘. To make matters even more difficult, it appears as though bigger and even more monstrous creatures are coming out of the Upside Down, and the two worlds might be moving closer than ever before, putting Hawkins and its residents in mortal danger. The trailer is action packed and shows the dawn of consumerism in the 80s with shopping malls, plenty of spandex which was fashionable then. We see how the time reflects the Ronald Reagan era in America, complete with the star-spangled backdrop during July 4th. We will also get to see more of the adorable friendship between Steve and Dustin, that bloomed in Season 2. Another friendship that seems to be blossoming is between Eleven and Max, which is unsurprising since both girls seem to come from a place of loneliness and would find comfort in each other’s company. It remains to be seen where ‘Stranger Things’ takes the story from here since the monsters are already overgrown and it appears as though Hawkins might be threatened by both humans and monsters, who want to eviscerate this quiet and seemingly peaceful town for their personal agendas. Irrespective of how Season 3 goes, we fully expect the climax to play out in the newly established Starcourt Mall, as the final episode is titled ‘The Battle of Starcourt’.

‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 will be exclusively available for streaming from July 4, 2019, on Netflix. You can check out the trailer for ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 below.
