Netflix’s ‘Never Have I Ever’ is a hilarious coming-of-age drama that centers upon Devi Vishwakumar’s roller-coaster ride through high school. The vivacious, hot-headed protagonist of Mindy Kaling’s hit show attempts to move on after her father’s sudden demise and strive to improve her complex relationship with her overprotective mother, all while exploring her love and academic life at high school. The award-winning show has been acclaimed for shedding stereotypical representations of the Indian-American community.
Even after 2 seasons, it continues to garner adoring fans who cannot help but be pulled into its colorful world. Devi has come a long way since the show’s inception, and her slow dance with Paxton in the season 2 finale is as tantalizing an ending as any. What will happen next? If you can’t wait to find out, we’ve got a treat for you. Here’s everything we know about ‘Never Have I Ever’ season 3.
Never Have I Ever Season 3 Release Date
‘Never Have I Ever’ season 2 released in its entirety on July 15, 2021, on Netflix. The season has 10 half-hour episodes, just like the show’s opening season. As far as season 3 is concerned, there have been no official announcements as to whether it will be greenlit but there are a lot of reasons to be hopeful that we will get to see more of Devi’s adventures.
Season 2 was greenlit just over 2 months after season 1 premiered. This is most likely due to the immediate popularity of the show, and considering it has since won the 2020 People’s Choice Awards for the best comedy show, we could most likely be hearing about a season 3 order from Netflix very soon. In terms of the story arc, too, the show still has a lot of unexplored potential, with many of the beloved supporting characters (like Kamala) just beginning to get into their stride and starting to shake things up themselves.
Kaling’s previous show, ‘The Mindy Project’ ran for 6 seasons, meaning the show’s co-creator (along with Lang Fisher, who has her own impressive roster of projects) likely has a lot more material up her sleeve for her spicy coming-of-age show. If greenlit soon, as we expect, we could most likely see ‘Never Have I Ever’ season 3 premiere on the streaming platform sometime in mid-2022.
Never Have I Ever Season 3 Cast: Who can be in it?
Maitreyi Ramakrishnan essays the delightfully capricious Devi Vishwakumar, with Poorna Jagannathan stepping into the role of her mother, Nalini Vishwakumar. The show’s supporting cast includes Darren Barnet (Paxton Hall-Yoshida), Jaren Lewison (Ben Gross), Richa Moorjani (Kamala), Ramona Young (Eleanor Wong), Lee Rodriguez (Fabiola Torres), and John McEnroe as the heavily involved and empathetic narrator. We also see Benjamin Norris (Trent Harrison), Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohan Vishwakumar; in flashbacks), Adam Shapiro (Mr. Shapiro), Dino Petrera (Jonah Sharpe), and Martin Martinez (Oliver Martinez), amongst others.
We will see most, if not all, of these actors reprise their roles in the potential season 3 and will most likely see some new cast members added to the roster. Nalini’s guilty flame Dr. Chris Jackson (Common), could also come back for a follow-up season.
Never Have I Ever Season 3 Plot: What can it be About?
Season 2 finds Devi finally begin to catch Paxton’s attention, which eventually leads to the two dancing together at the school dance, much to the disappointment of Ben. Kamala, too, in a surprising move, abandons the formalities of her arranged marriage and sneaks out to the school dance where Devi’s English teacher seems to have caught her eye.
In the potential season 3, considering the show hinges heavily on Devi’s romantic misadventures, we will likely see turbulence in her relationship with Paxton. At the same time, Ben, now aware that she liked him at one point, might also attempt to rekindle a relationship with the full-spirited Devi. We could also see Kamala take a page out of her younger cousin’s book and become more assertive. The second season introduces a very interesting angle wherein Devi’s mother, Nalini, opens up to the idea of new love. This will very likely be explored in a potential follow-up season.
