Everything We Know About 47 Meters Down 3

Shark movies are always thrilling as there is a threat of imminent attack from the great unknown that lies underneath the surface of the ocean. ’47 Meters Down’ taps into the public enjoyment of shark movies and watching shark attacks on-screen. However, it does not make the plot unbelievable, by adding giant sharks like ‘The Meg’ or going for absurd shark attacks like ‘Sand Sharks’ or ‘Sharknado’. Instead, it chooses to combine psychological horror with the thrill of a shark attack.

The first movie, ’47 Meters Down’, establishes the tropes of survival horror that is reflected in the second film, ’47 Meters Down: Uncaged’ too. With Hollywood’s tendency to bank on successful films and develop them into franchises, we would not be surprised if ’47 Meters Down’ gets the same treatment. Ultimately the crux of both films explores human interactions underwater when they are threatened by the presence of sharks. However, ’47 Meters Down: Uncaged’ builds on the first film, and showcases a potentially larger area wherein the shark attack plays out. Ultimately, you end up wishing you were in a cage. Considering that shark attacks are not going to go out of fashion in Hollywood anytime soon, here is all we know about ’47 Meters Down 3′.

47 Meters Down 3 Plot: What We Know So Far?

The story of ’47 Meters Down 3′ is not likely to be a continuation of ’47 Meters Down: Uncaged’. One thing is for certain, ’47 Meters Down 3′ will have hungry sharks and confused humans in exotic locations, like the previous movies. It remains to be seen if the budget is increased to change the narrative formula, or if the filmmakers stick to the successful formula. However, to understand the plot of the upcoming movie, readers need to acquaint themselves with the plots of the previous two movies, slightly.

’47 Meters Down’ and the sequel, ’47 Meters Down: Uncaged’ have some common aspects. Both films are set in Mexico, involve girls going on underwater expeditions, and most interestingly hungry sharks. The first movie deals with two girls on a cage diving trip. This trip goes haywire as the winch cable for the cage is frayed and gives way, sending the girls hurtling to the bottom of the ocean. This is where the movie gets its name from since they are forty-seven meters below the surface and cannot communicate with the boat. Moreover, there are hungry sharks nearby as the girls are about to run out of oxygen. ’47 Meters Down’ is a harrowing experience which explores how human psychology is affected by the lack of oxygen, causing hallucinations. While ’47 Meters Down’ is nowhere close to some fantastic shark films like ‘Jaws‘ or ‘Deep Blue Sea‘, it is novel in its approach.

Compared to that, ’47 Meters Down: Uncaged’ does not add anything new to the story, except for making the shark attacks more dangerous. Most notably, the sequel does away with the notion of 47 meters playing any relevant part in the film. It introduces a completely new set of characters and shows them going on a scuba diving expedition into the heart of a sunken Mayan city. However, their standard expedition goes haywire when they come under attack from a group of sharks. There are several moments of suspense as characters have to be extremely still, so as not to draw the attention of the carnivores. Much like other shark movies, there are some nail-biting chases, which result in the sharks getting their snouts stuck in some narrow openings. However, as the group tries to evade the sharks, they head closer to the center of the city, which is where the most dangerous sharks of the area lie waiting. While the second film ups the action, it does away with the psychological aspects of ’47 Meters Down’. Instead, it provides a pure shark attack experience. So what could ’47 Meters Down 3′ have in store?

First off, there is no post-credit scene in ’47 Meters Down: Uncaged’. However, this is not surprising since horror films tend to not give away any teaser, so as to reserve maximum impact for the film itself. Moreover, it is likely that there is no story or cast in place for the third film, which is why no additional scene has been shown. Technically, this gives the filmmakers a clean slate to carry the movie in whatever directions they choose. Considering the latest installment has not been met with positive response, the people involved might be looking to reintroduce the psychological horror aspect to the shark attack movies. Hopefully, ’47 Meters Down 3′ will have more solid characters and even bigger shark attacks.

47 Meters Down 3 Cast: Who is Going to be in it?

While ’47 Meters Down’ stars Claire Holt and Mandy Moore, ’47 Meters Down: Uncaged’ has a completely different cast, which includes Sophie Nélisse, Brianne Tju, Corinne Foxx (daughter of Jaime Foxx) and Sistine Stallone (daughter of Sylvester Stallone), among others. We would not be surprised if ’47 Meters Down 3′ adds a very different cast to the film, perhaps even giving them the chance to make big-screen debuts like Corinne and Sistine got this time.

47 Meters Down 3 Crew: Who is behind it?

’47 Meters Down’ and ’47 Meters Down Uncaged’ have been helmed by Johannes Roberts, who has also written the script along with Ernest Riera. Mark Silk has been the cinematographer and the movies have been produced by James Harris and Mark Lane. The music for both the movies has been given by Tomandandy, the duo from New York. Since there appears to be a set team behind the films, ’47 Meters Down 3′ is likely to see the same crew and they will work hard to ensure that the movie goes on to become part of a successful franchise.

47 Meters Down 3 Release Date: When will it premiere?

’47 Meters Down 3′ has not been officially greenlit yet. The makers will assess the earnings of ’47 Meters Down: Uncaged’ and make a final decision. However, considering the fact that the film aren’t every expensive to make and recover costs easily, ’47 Meters Down 3′ is likely to be approved but it might take a while. Since the second movie came two years after 2017’s ’47 Meters Down’, we expect ’47 Meters Down 3′ to release sometime during summer 2021, which is the perfect time for blockbuster shark movies as Steven Spielberg has proven.
