Northern Rescue Season 2: Premiere Date, Cast, Recap, Update

‘Northern Rescue’ is a family drama web-series that airs on Netflix. The show has been produced by Don Carmody Television (DCTV) and the show-makers include Mark Bacci, David Cormican, the Emmy nominated producer, and Dwayne Hill, the performer and writer nominated for a Daytime Emmy. It first premiered on March 1, 2019.

‘Northern Rescue’ takes a nuanced look into the meaning and essence of a family, while exploring what is required to make this unit work in the modern world. One of the stars of the show, Kathleen Robertson, underlined its motive, “It’s a true exploration of what it means to live, survive and find oneself in the face of tragedy”.

Northern Rescue Cast: Who is in it?

‘Northern Rescue’ boasts an impressive cast that includes William Baldwin, who is famous for films like ‘Flatliners’, ‘Backdraft’, ‘Silver’ and ‘The Squid and the Whale’. He is also the second youngest of the four Baldwin brothers, the eldest being notable actor Alec Baldwin. Other members include Kathleen Robertson who is famous for playing Hildy Mulligan in ‘Murder in the First’, the TNT series. The show also stars a 14-year-old Taylor Throne, the rising star from Kitchener. ‘Northern Rescue’ has Amalia Williamson play Maddie, who appears to be the actual protagonist of the show since she is the narrator through whose eyes the events unfold.

If Season 2 happens, all the major cast members are expected to return for the show.

Northern Rescue Plot: What is it about?

‘Northern Rescue’ follows John West (Baldwin) who when he loses his wife, uproots his entire family from the big city and moves to his small hometown which is Turtle Island Bay. As the children start living with their Aunt Charlotte (Robertson), John takes command of the local search and rescue team. John’s three children try and cope with the loss of their mother in different ways, sometimes acting out. As John too must come to terms with the loss of his wife, he is helped by Charlotte who nurtures her own desires of having a family. The family tries to move towards reconciliation after moving past their grief.

The show itself is told from Maddie’s point of view. We are introduced to her, the oldest child in the family, which apparently brings all the responsibility and none of the glory. Immediately, we are thrown into the aftermath of the mother’s death, as Maddie runs us through her family members. Baldwin’s character seems like a real-life action hero who saves people’s lives for a living. He is also an alpha male kind of character that needs his family to stay in line all the time. Scout, the brother, is the middle child while Taylor, the youngest kid, is portrayed as the perfect child. We see how the family deals with grief, with the father throwing himself into dangerous situations, the eldest daughter getting arrested and the middle child picking fights. Baldwin’s character tries to hold the family together, advising them not to use their mother’s death as an excuse for throwing their lives away. However, he fears that he might be losing his kids.

Baldwin himself touched upon what viewers could expect in terms of themes, in an interview with Tv InsiderHe said that the role required him to balance the job of the father and the mother. He knew this to be a monumental task since he shared the duties with his wife in real life. Baldwin also emphasized how his real-life experience as a father raising kids helped him in the role, as it better allowed him to understand the shortcomings and achievements of his character. He also touched upon the theme of dealing with death and how it can make people want to throw their lives away. He emphasizes how the children in the show do not realize how a single night of bad decisions can lead to a ruined future. Despite all this, it appears as though his character tries to cope by throwing himself into the job of saving everyone’s life but almost fails to save his own family. The first season has been shot in Parry Sounds in Ontario over four months during the summer.

We will update this section as soon as we have plot details about Season 2.

The first season comprises of ten episodes, all of which released on the same day.  As far as the next season goes, we don’t have an official announcement yet. Though considering the show’s cast family audience, we would be surprised if it doesn’t get another season.
