Ozark Season 4: Everything We Know

Ozark Season 4

Created by Bill Dubuque, ‘Ozark’ is a riveting crime drama that follows a Chicago family laundering money for a Mexican drug cartel from a base of operations in the titular Missouri vacationland. Jason Bateman not only stars as the patriarch of the central family, but he also put on executive-producer and directorial hats – and so astutely, might we say so.

The show earned tremendous critical acclaim, which further earned it a whopping 18 Emmy nods at the 2020 awards ceremony, including Outstanding Lead Actor, Outstanding Lead Actress, and Outstanding Drama Series. With a deftly crafted season 3 that dropped earlier in 2020, everyone’s anxiously awaiting what comes next for the Byrdes. Well, let’s find out everything we know about ‘Ozark’ Season 4!

Ozark Season 4 Release Date

‘Ozark’ Season 3 dropped on Netflix on March 27, 2020. The streamer officially unveiled the show’s season 4 renewal on June 30, 2020. However, this great news was tinged with sad news, as they proclaimed that the upcoming fourth season will be the final chapter in the story.

Unlike its previous three installments, season 4 will consist of a hefty dose of 14 episodes that would be split into two different 7-episode parts bringing a dramatic conclusion to the story. The show’s typical release pattern indicates a respite time period between a year and a year and a half. The production is currently due to start in November 2020, with stringent health and safety measures in place. So adding the filming delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic to the equation, fans can expect ‘Ozark’ season 4 to release sometime in the latter half of 2021.

Ozark Season 4 Cast: Who is in it?

While the new faces that’ll grace us heading into season 4 are under wraps, here are all the cast members who are expected to come back for the home stretch, based on the way season 3 left off – Jason Bateman as Marty Byrde, Laura Linney as Wendy Byrde, Julia Garner as Ruth Langmore, Skylar Gaertner as Jonah Byrde, Sofia Hublitz as Charlotte Byrde, Charlie Tahan as Wyatt Langmore, and Lisa Emery as Darlene Snell, Jessica Frances Dukes as FBI Special Agent Maya Miller, and Felix Solis as cartel boss Omar Novarro.

Ozark Season 4 Plot: What can it be About?

‘Ozark’ season 3 managed to pack enough gore and drama that we’ve come to expect from the series. Only this time, they take it all the way up like never seen before. Marty is taken captive by Omar Novarro, while things aren’t looking up for Wendy either, who is coerced into putting a hit out on her own brother in a bid to save the rest of her family from the scathing wrath of the cartel.

Unbeknownst to Marty and Wendy, Helen (Janet McTeer) devices a plan against them, which doesn’t bode well for her, as we see in the final minutes of season 3. Marty gets a forewarning via Maya that word is he’s turning on Novarro. As Marty, Wendy, and Helen arrive at the compound in Mexico to meet with the kingpin, Novarro welcomes them as Helen is shot dead in the head, leaving Wendy and Marty utterly gobsmacked.

Season 4 of ‘Ozark’ is most likely to pick up from the massive cliffhanger in the season 3 finale. The viewers might witness this family sink deeper still into a criminal hell of their own making as they reel from the aftermath of the events of the previous season. Speaking with EW, the showrunner Chris Mundy opened up about what the dynamic between Wendy-Marty and Novarro would be moving forward, saying, “Marty kind of said it in the speech that he gives to try and get Wendy out of bed, which is that we have to burrow all the way into the center of this thing. To us, it’s that.”

He added, “It’s, you’re a vital part of this enterprise now and you’re completely on his radar, to the point where he’s commingling his or someone else’s blood with yours, you’re sharing in that. And so, for better or worse, you’re completely in this game, and now it’s yours to see if you have another play left in you.” When asked what season 4 would entail for Ruth’s narrative arc, he hinted that her journey would be intricately woven into the plot, giving it a resolute conclusion along with the rest of the show.

Mundy also said that he thinks season 4 “will be about whether or not Ruth really can create something of her own that she wants and is sustainable, or if she wants something else. And I think it will be about if the Byrdes can they turn the biggest mistake of their lives into this huge advantage, and how much will karma catch up with them if they do?” Whenever we are blessed with the ultimate season of ‘Ozark’, it’ll be nothing short of the thrilling and captivating plot story we’ve seen so far, that’s for sure.
