P-Valley Plot: What is it About?
Set in the Mississippi Delta also known as the “Dirty Delta,” the powerful drama follows the lives of the strip club workers as they deal with the struggles and secrets associated with their profession and their personalities outside of it. A young woman named Autumn Night, who is on the run from the people and memories of her violent past, stumbles upon The Pynk, where she meets the club-runner, Uncle Clifford, who instantly notices the spark in her and embraces her into the Pynk family.
Uncle Clifford is a gender non-binary diva who goes by the pronouns she/her and is secretly in a relationship with a local rapper, Lil Murda. The star of the club, Mercedes, gears up for her final dance before she leaves to focus on opening a gym, paving way for the Keyshawn AKA “Miss Mississippi” to assume her place. Before going, she is tasked with teaching Autumn all the tricks of the trade. Keyshawn is stuck between following her passion and dealing with an abusive baby daddy. Trouble knocks at the door of The Pynk when they are offered a deal to surrender the place for gentrification in return for a hefty sum.
Will the Pynk family be able to save the club from slipping from their hands or will they succumb to the pressure? Well, if you loved the razzmatazz of ‘Hustlers,’ you’ll surely love this one for it’s a more nuanced and humanized tale on a profession that is often stigmatized. It takes a more refined approach by using empathy and understanding as running tools for storytelling, instead of pitting the strippers against each other.
