Hulu’s ‘Palm Springs’ is a fun-ride that uses the premise of a time loop to bring together two interesting characters and create an engaging story. While most of it is about fun, by the end, the film leans more towards the sci-fi nature of the time loop. It leaves a couple of hints about the extent of the loop, making us wonder if more people are still trapped there. The mid-credits scene serves as a nod for more things to come. Does it mean we will get a sequel of ‘Palm Springs’? Let’s find out.
Palm Springs 2 Release Date
‘Palm Springs’ premiered on Hulu on July 10, 2020. The film opened to good reviews from the critics, with the praise directed towards its innovative plot and the performances by the cast. The decision to greenlight a sequel would depend on how the audience responds to it. As of now, there have been no official announcements about it. Even if that happens soon enough, we might have to wait a while before the movie arrives on our screens. It took the writers around four years to fully develop the idea of ‘Palm Springs’. Considering all this, we expect ‘Palm Springs 2’ to release sometime in 2023 or later.
Palm Springs 2 Cast: Who’s in it?
‘Palm Springs’ stars Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti in the roles of Nyles and Sarah, who get trapped in a time loop. J.K Simmons appears in the role of Roy, another man who is trapped in the time loop because of Nyles. Meredith Hagner plays the role of Misty, Nyles’ girlfriend. Camila Mendes and Tyler Hoechlin play the roles of Tala and Abe, the bride and the groom, while June Squibb stars in the role of Nana Schlieffen.
The cast of the sequel would depend on the course the story chooses to take. At the end of the film, J.K Simmons’ character is still trapped at the wedding, which means he would be returning for the follow-up to his arc. Surprisingly, Squibb’s character takes a mysterious meaning by the end, which means she could reprise her role as Nana. Samberg, Milioti, and others could return with cameos. If the story takes a different route with new characters, we expect new actors to join the cast.
Palm Springs 2 Plot: What can it be about?
At the end of the film, Nyles and Sarah succeed in breaking out of the loop, but Roy is left behind. The sequel could focus on his side of the story. Now that he too knows that there is a way out, he’ll try to leave the loop too. But, as the film hints, he is not the only one trapped there.
June Squibb’s character Nana also lets out that she knows about the loop, which means she is stuck in it too. The sequel could also show us how she got trapped there and if she is interested in getting out of it, or if she is happy with her newfound immortality. And if Nana is stuck in a loop, who’s to say there isn’t another person like them at the wedding. With so many people in the picture, the sequel could extrapolate on anyone’s story
