Peaky Blinders Season 6: Everything We Know

Created by Steven Knight, ‘Peaky Blinders’ is an award-winning crime show set in 1900s Birmingham, England. It revolves around the Shelby family, which is loosely modeled after the titular urban youth gang that was at its height in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The crime drama originally released on September 12, 2013, on BBC Two. After airing four seasons on the network, the show moved to BBC One. The period drama first reached the American audiences on September 30, 2014, after Netflix acquired the streaming rights.

The series received critical acclaim for its writing and performances. It has notably been lauded for its stunning cinematography. Additionally, the fast pace and riveting storyline have also contributed to its ever-growing popularity. However, it has left some historians divided in their opinion about how the show uses historical events in the narrative. Nevertheless, this mammoth success of a show has a solid fan following, who cannot wait to hear about the potential sixth season. Here is everything we have dug up!

Peaky Blinders Season 6 Release Date

‘Peaky Blinders’ season 5 landed in its entirety on October 4, 2019, on Netflix. Ahead of its arrival on the streaming platform, the fifth round of the series aired in the UK from August 25, 2019, to September 22, 2019, on BBC One. The fifth season comprises six episodes that run for 55–65 minutes each.

As for the sixth season, you might find it interesting to learn what we know. The good news is that there will be a season 6, but unfortunately, it will be the concluding chapter for the series. There is no doubt that the fans must be disappointed, considering they were expecting the show to continue for at least seven seasons in total. Back in 2018, the series creator Steven Knight had suggested that the crime drama might last for seven cycles.

Season 6 was meant to commence filming in March 2020 but was delayed due to the pandemic. Finally, it went into production in January 2021 and wrapped up in late May 2021. Taking into consideration that one season requires at least 13 months to complete production, we would not get our hopes up for the upcoming season to release anytime soon. Therefore, we can expect ‘Peaky Blinders’ season 6 to release sometime in Q1 2022 on BBC and in Q2 2022 on Netflix.

Even though the sixth season is the show’s last hurrah, it is not the end of the road for the characters. As confirmed by Knight, “While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form.” In an interview in January 2021, he also revealed that the team felt it was better to do a film instead of season 7. If reports are accurate, the film might not be the only way to carry the story forward; there might be some spin-off series too.

Peaky Blinders Season 6 Cast: Who is in it?

Most of the key players might reprise their roles for the final season. This includes Cillian Murphy (Thomas “Tommy” Shelby), Paul Anderson (Arthur Shelby Jr.), Ned Dennehy (Charlie Strong), Benjamin Zephaniah (Jeremiah ‘Jimmy’ Jesus), Sam Claflin (Sir Oswald Mosley), Harry Kirton (Finn Shelby), and Natasha O’Keeffe (Lizzie Shelby). We might also see Packy Lee (Johnny Dogs), Tom Hardy (Alfred “Alfie” Solomons), Finn Cole (Michael Gray), Kate Phillips (Linda Shelby), Daryl McCormack (Isiah Jesus), and Anya Taylor-Joy (Gina Gray) in the sixth iteration of the show.

Since Tommy’s first wife, Grace Shelby, appears in his hallucinations, Annabelle Wallis might reprise her role in the upcoming installment as well. Unfortunately, Helen McCrory, who plays Elizabeth “Polly” Gray, passed away in April 2021. It remains to be seen how the writers will address her absence since it is unclear whether or not the actress had filmed any scenes for season 6. However, some fresh faces have been cast. We will see Conrad Khan, James Frecheville, Amber Anderson, and Stephen Graham in undisclosed roles.

Peaky Blinders Season 6 Plot: What is it About?

As the fifth season draws to a close, political tensions build up as the possibility of the Second World War looms on the horizon. Amidst all that, things aren’t looking good at Shelby Co. Ltd. as Michael and Gina make a bold proposal, and Polly quits. We know that Tommy is the Deputy Leader of the British Union of Fascists. In the final moments of the season, he is broken when his plans to assassinate Sir Oswald Mosley fail miserably. We see Tommy in anguish as he puts a gun to his head.

It has been reported that the upcoming edition will pick up the narrative from where season 5 ends. So, the season will open with Tommy in the field with the gun. We will learn who betrayed Tommy, which resulted in the failed attempt on Mosley’s life. As we know, Tommy has dedicated a lot of time and energy to opposing fascism. This narrative thread will continue in season 6 as well.
