Is Pearson Cancelled?

You must be aware that ‘Suits’, one of the most popular legal shows, came to an end in September 2019. The longest-running legal drama had a big fan following. While some were disappointed that ‘Suits’ was ending, the good news arrived in the form of another show to fill the void in viewers’ hearts. The Suits’ spin-off ‘Pearson’ revolves around one powerhouse lawyer from the predecessor series — Jessica Pearson — and follows her as she enters the dirty world of Chicago politics.

Created by Aaron Korsh and Daniel Arkin, it premiered alongside the final season of ‘Suits’ in July 2019. Diving into a comparatively darker theme than its parent series, ‘Pearson’ offered a promising start. So will a ‘Pearson’ season 2 happen? Let’s find out.

Pearson Season 2 Release Date: Renewed or Cancelled?

‘Pearson’ season 1 premiered on July 17, 2019, on USA Network and came to an end on September 18, 2019, after airing for 10 episodes.

In October 2019, the channel announced that they would not be renewing the series for another season. The reasons for this cancellation are pretty straightforward. Although the protagonist had a huge fan following, it opened to poor ratings and ranked as USA’s lowest-rated original scripted series. As a result, USA Network had no choice but to ax the show.

Therefore, there you go! It might be a piece of disappointing news for some, but it is officially confirmed that ‘Pearson’ season 2 stands cancelled.

Pearson Cast: Who is in it?

Gina Torres stars as the central protagonist on ‘Pearson’, reprising her original role of Jessica Pearson from the parent series. She is joined by Bethany Joy Lenz (‘One Tree Hill‘) as Keri Allen, Simon Kassianides (‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’) as Nick D’Amato, Eli Goree (‘Riverdale‘) as Derrick Mayes, Isabel Arraiza (‘The Oath’) as Yoli Castillo, Morgan Spector as Mayor Bobby Novak, and Chantel Riley (‘Wynonna Earp’) as Angela Cook.

Pearson Plot: What is it about?

‘Pearson’ follows the recently disbarred powerful attorney from New York City, Jessica Pearson, after she sets foot in the dirty political sphere of Chicago. She is recruited by the new mayor, Bobby Novak, to act as his right-hand fix. However, as she dives deep into his life, she realizes that this dangerous and twisted world demands her to make every decision with caution. Because every action comes with far-reaching, impactful consequences. Now, with her ever-present desire to win, she has to balance her ruthless ambition with doing what is right.

‘Pearson’, that is deeply embedded with the DNA of ‘Suits’, relives the link between the two shows through Jessica. As per Arkin, it is even more gritty, raw, and real — highlighting previously unknown facets of Jessica’s personality. Coupled with a noir tone, it also delves deeper into her personal life as the episodes narrate her endless pursuits in the Windy City. Torn between corruption and ambition, she has to battle with her morality and conscience. Although viewers get to see several negative aspects of her persona, she finally succeeds in not being billed as an anti-hero.

If you have followed ‘Suits’, you will know that after Jessica resigns from Pearson Specter Litt, she wants to go back to her roots — to return to the actual goal of why she became a lawyer in the first place. Post her arrival in Chicago and following her being stripped of her license, she now is determined to stop at nothing to finally reach the top of her game. Apart from serving her firm, she also needs to serve her own needs. This includes Jessica trying to reconnect with her family, such as her cousin Riley, who is still apprehensive about her real motives. Our protagonist needs to earn back their affection since she and her kin come from completely different backdrops.

‘Pearson’ gives viewers a detailed insight into the nature of big-city government and politics. It is, in fact, more of an immersive political drama where there is this never-ending battle among different pressure groups to take one slice out of the revenue pie. There are public schools, cops, and housing activists, each clamoring for their own share. It is all about how one can rise while stepping over another. And as Jessica embarks from the world of “high-rise corporate law to ground-floor Chicago politics”, she, in her fabulous couture ensemble, needs to figure out how to adjust to this new, chaotic life.
