How did Phil Simms earn his money and wealth?
Philip Martin Simms, known as Phil Simms, was born on 3rd November 1955, at Springfield, Kentucky. He went St. Dominic Elementary School. Later his family moved to Louisville and then he attended St. Rita Catholic grade school. Simms then attended Southern High School where he was the quarterback of Trojans. In 1979, before the NFL Draft, he was trained by San Francisco 49ers head coach Bill Walsh along with his assistant coach Sam Wyche. He was selected to the New York Giants as the second quarterback. Simms won the first five starts of a rookie in the year and was named to the NFL All-Rookie Team. He was the runner-up of Rookie of the Year.
In the later years, Simms career was down with injuries and poor performances. In 1987 Super Bowl XXI, Simms performance was one of the finest in the history of Super Bowl. The Giants defeated Denver Broncos in the game and Simms was titled as the MVP of Super Bowl XXI. In the NFL season of the year, Simms performed well and finished as the second highest quarterback rating in the NFC. In 1993, after the NFL season, Simms underwent shoulder surgery. The surgery was successful and he was ready for the training but Simms was released by Giants. Subsequently, Simms decided to retire.
After the retirement as a player, Simms joined ESPN. Later he went on to join as NBC’S Less Broadcast Crew on the coverage of Super Bowl XXXII and Super Bowl XXX along with Dick Enberg and Paul Maguire. In 1996 Summer Olympics, he served as the sideline reporter on NBA for NBC Sports. In 1998, he joined CBS as CBS’s lead broadcast team, teaming first with Greg Gimbel and later with Jim Nantz. Simms hosted the show Inside the NFL on HBO subsequently picked up by Showtime Network with James Brown and Cris Collinsworth.
In 2007, Simms appeared as himself on CBS soap opera As the World Turns. He also appeared on The Price Is Right in 2010, to present Super Bowl XLIV showcase. He also appeared on the show How I Met Your Mother in the same year. Simms has been a commentator for CBS and NFL Network broadcast of Thursday Night Football on 2015- 16 NFL season. He moved to The NFL Today for the 2017-18 NFL season.
Simms appeared on 2005 police procedural crime drama television series by Jeff Davis broadcasted on CBS. He also appeared on documentary series A Football Life aired on NFL Network. Simms was married to Diana and they have 3 children. His son Matthew is a free agent quarterback in NFL.
