Will There Be a Power Season 7?

‘Power’ is a crime drama series that may not be critically acclaimed but has been praised by many viewers for its intense depiction of gangs, nightclubs, and most of all, street wars. The show has moments of great writing and is heavily character-driven. Moreover, it also promises a great cast that includes renowned names such as Omari Hardwick, 50 Cent, Naturi Naughton, and many others. The cataclysmic ending of its sixth season left fans wanting for more. And if you happen to be one of these fans, here’s everything you need to about its season 7.

Power Season 7 Release Date: When will it premiere?

Created by  Courtney A. Kemp, ‘Power’ first premiered on June 7, 2014, on Starz. During its course of six seasons, the show aired a total of 63 episodes and concluded its season 6 finale with a very shocking revelation. Unfortunately, the sixth season was announced to be the last so there will not be a Season 7. Even so, the good news for the fans of the show is that Starz has already confirmed that it will be releasing a series of 4 spin-offs that will continue the franchise. The first among these spin-offs will be ‘Power Book II’ which will be directed continuation of the final explosive moments of season 6. Although its final release date has not been announced yet, we expect ‘Power Book II’ to release sometime in 2021.

At a Starz TCA panel, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson also officially declared that the spin-off is already in pre-production. “Today we are pleased to announce that we are in pre-production on the first of what we know will be a collection of series inspired by the dynamic world of Power, said Kemp dropping the news as the APA-repped Blige bound into the ballroom. Power Book II: Ghost will continue the journey of some of Power’s most controversial characters,” he said. He also announced the spin-off on his twitter account. Check it out below:

Power Book II: Ghost Cast: Who Can Be in it?

As far as the cast of ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ is concerned, it seems pretty obvious that Ghost (Omari Hardwick) will not be a part of it as his character was eradicated in the last season; although his name is still in the title of the spin-off. The only confirmed cast member for ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ is actor and singer Mary J Blige whose involvement with the show was revealed at a Starz TCA panel. “This is probably going to be the most exciting thing that will happen to me this year,” she said after making a surprise appearance at the TCA panel. Adding to this, she also said that she is a big fan of the series and is grateful to be a part of it.

Power Book II: Ghost Plot: What Can it Be About?

Previously, showrunner Courtney Kemp had revealed that the spin-offs will primarily revolve around the journeys of the main characters of the show. Following the nail-biting action that ensued in the final moments of season 6, it’s hard to predict who these characters will be and how many of them will actually make it to the next arc of its storyline. It is also hard to determine if the spin-off will serve as a prequel or a sequel to the main series.

However, in an interview,  Courtney Kemp commented on the conclusion of the series by saying: “I mean, to be honest with you, with love and all respect, I did not want to end the series in a non-definitive fashion, and then I did not want the audience to go ‘I don’t know what happened’. I’m going to honor the idea of a complete tale with Power. So, there’s a beginning to this story, there’s a middle to this story, and then there’s an end, and what you’re seeing is me writing the end now. It’s inevitable that Ghost was going to run into a situation he can’t get his way out of. We’ve seen him slip out of every possible situation, every possible bind. I mean at some point it has to catch up with him, does it not?”

This suggests that the upcoming spin-off could be a prequel but for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
