Record of Youth Episode 14 Recap
Multiple scandals, one after the other, have rocked Hye Jun’s popular image among his fans and the media is relentless in their pursuit of him. In episode 4, we see how his sudden rise to fame has affected his relationships with his family and friends. Hae Ho, who found out his social media followers are bought by his mother, is devastated and embarrassed that he is losing out to Hye Jun and that affects his acting abilities, causing him to fumble while filming a scene with Hye Jun. When Hye Jun talks to him about what’s going on, Hae Ho tells him that he really wanted to beat Hye Jun on his own but couldn’t even do that. Right after this, we cut back to the past where a school-going Hye Jun tells Hae Ho that he cannot be his friend because he is embarrassed that his mother works at Hae Ho’s house. Seems like the tables have turned now and Hae Ho is the one who cannot handle his best friend’s success.
Meanwhile, Min Jae informs Hye Jun of the mess Gyeong Jun is in, having been hit with a lawsuit due to his online comment wars with Hye Jun’s trolls. Hye Jun talks to his brother and asks him to be nice to him in person rather than defending him online and engaging with trolls. His brother agrees to write a letter of apology to settle the issue. Hye Jun also gets to spend some quality time with Jeong Ha but a reporter clicks their photo together and publishes news about their relationship. Hye Jun cries himself to sleep as he realizes how his relationship with his best friend and his girlfriend is suffering because of his career. When Hye Jun goes to meet Jeong Ha on their day off, she stands him up and he is unable to locate her. The scene then cuts forward in time and we see Jeong Ha and Hye Jun meeting at the Jjampong office. Amidst news of Hye Jun having to pay millions in compensation for breach of contract, Jeong Ha tells him that she loves him but follows that by saying, “Let’s break up”.
