How did Ralph Tresvant earn his money and wealth?

Ralph Tresvant is a singer, songwriter, and actor who is known as the lead singer of “New Edition”, an R&B and pop group. His formal name is Ralph Edward Tresvant Sr. and he is also known as Rizzo and Rizz. Tresvant was born on May 16, 1968, in Boston, Massachusetts. Tresvant was inclined to music from his school days and had formed a group with his friends, Ricky Bell, Bobby Brown and Michael Bivins to perform at local talent shows.  Brooke Payne, a local manager, and choreographer discovered them at a local talent show and asked them to audition with him. After the successful audition, he named the group “New Edition”, meaning to signify that they were a new version of the Jackson 5.

New Edition signed up with the record label “Streetwise Records” who included a fifth member, Ronnie DeVoe. They released their debut album in 1983 and titled it “Candy Girl”. The album was a perfect launch pad for the young boys with the hut singles “Candy Girl”, “Popcorn Love” and “Is This the End”. New Edition singed up with MCA Records and released their second album titled “New Edition” in 1984. The album included “Cool It Now”, a Top Five smash hit single.

Tresvant was initially reluctant to release a solo album but when he saw that Bobby Brown and his successful solo album, he was inspired to do the same. In 1990 he released his self-titled solo album with the lead single “Sensitivity” which spent 20 weeks on the US R&B singles chart. It also included hit singles such as “Stone Cold Gentleman” and “Do What I Gotta Do”. “Stone Cold Gentleman” featured his band mate Bobby Brown as the guest voice.

Tresvant’s voice has also been used on soundtracks and songs for films such as “Mo’ Money” and “The Preacher’s Wife”. He has also ventured into acting and has made a cameo appearance in “House Party 2”, a popular urban comedy show. The show also included his singles “Yo Baby Yo” and “Rated-R. He has also acted in the following movies: “Barbershop” (2004), Triple Cross” (2006), “Behind RizzWaFaire” (2008) and “Get On Up” (2014). Tresvant has a show “Inside the Ride with Tresvant” as a DJ on The BASS of Boston WZBR 1410 AM. The show premiered on September 5, 2016.

Tresvant married Shelly, his childhood sweetheart and has two daughters together, Na’Quelle and Mariah.
