Who can ever forget that hilarious scene of Rebel Wilson explaining how she mistook her roommate’s diary for a “sad handwritten book” from ‘Bridesmaids‘? The Australian actress started her acting career with hilarious performances on stage and TV. She made her name before making her mark in Hollywood with a cameo in Nicolas Cage’s 2007 flick ‘Ghost Rider.’ When she was a student at the Australian Theater for Young People, Wilson was known for creating and performing her own comedy theater productions. Her acting debut was in the 2003 series ‘Pizza’ as the leader of a girl gang.
Wilson won a scholarship with The Second City Training Center and later moved to New York City. Her major breakthrough in the U.S. was the 2011 Judd Apatow comedy ‘Bridesmaids.’ Wilson stepped in to audition for another role, later played by Melissa McCarthy but landed Kristen Wiig’s hellish roommate’s role instead. The immense popularity of her character in ‘Bridesmaids’ helped Wilson to land important roles in movies like ‘Bachelorette’ (2012), ‘Struck by Lightning’ (2012), ‘What To Expect When You’re Expecting’ (2012), and ‘Ice Age: Continental Drift‘ (2012).
The 2012 musical comedy ‘Pitch Perfect‘ catapulted Wilson into instant stardom. She played the role of a choir-singer Fat Amy alongside Anna Kendrick in the movie. Fat Amy stole the hearts of the viewers with her spectacular physical comedy and acidic one-liners. The success of the movie paved the way for a franchise with two more movies in a row. Wilson reprised her iconic role in both the movies, ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ (2015) and ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ (2017). She played significant roles alongside Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson in ‘Pain & Gain’ in 2013 and with Leslie Mann and Dakota Johnson in the 2016 comedy ‘How to Be Single.’
In ‘The Brothers Grimsby,’ Wilson was cast alongside Sacha Baron Cohen, Isla Fisher, and Penelope Cruz. 2019 saw Wilson playing an architect in ‘Isn’t It Romantic.’ She later reunited with her ‘Pitch Perfect’ co-star Adam DeVine in the comedy feature, with Liam Hemsworth and Priyanka Chopra playing key roles. 2. Cats (2019)
Rebel Wilson will be seen alongside an ensemble cast that includes Idris Elba, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, and Ian McKellen in the upcoming musical ‘Cats’. Wilson plays the character Jennyanydots in the movie. The film is an adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical of the same name, as reports suggest. Jennyanydots is infamous among the cat community for her laziness. She spends the daytime sleeping and becomes active during nights.
The plot revolves around a tribe of cats named the Jellicles. They follow the cat lore of “the Jellicle choice”, according to which a chosen cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to life. ‘Cats’ is directed by Tom Hooper from an adapted screenplay he wrote along with Lee Hall. The movie also features popular songs like ‘Memory.’ ‘Cats’ is slated for a December 20, 2019 release.

1. Les Norton (2019- )
The Australian crime-drama series ‘Les Norton’ features Rebel Wilson and David Wenham in the lead roles. Set in 1985, the series is based on the novels of Robert G. Barrett. Alexander Bertrand plays the titular role of Norton, who is on the run from a violent past. He finds a job as a bouncer at the illegal casino Kings Cross, in the underbelly of Sydney.
Soon, the village boy in him is seduced by the deceptive charm of the city’s underworld. Norton finds himself torn between the desire to go back home and to disappear into the alluring pleasures of the city. Morgan O’Neill serves as the creator of the ABC series. ‘Les Norton’ aired its first season on August 4, 2019, and will be back in the future with more seasons.

The Hustle (2019)
‘The Hustle’ is a comedy that features Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson in the lead roles. The plot revolves around two con artists in Southern France. The movie is a remake of 1988 comedy ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,’ starring Steve Martin. Both the movies have a precursor, 1964’s ‘Bedtime Story,’ starring Marlon Brando and David Niven. In the 2019 version, Wilson’s Lonnie and Hathaway’s Josephine are in a desperate situation and their only way out is their target — Alex Sharp’s Thomas.
“And I have to say, with ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’, they were playing into women’s romantic ideas about men and they were kind of taking advantage of silly women — we’re taking advantage of men who have actively harmful ideas of what women are. So I do think maybe, in that sense, it’s a little more pointed”, Wilson told EW in April 2019. ‘The Hustle’ is directed by Chris Addison from a screenplay by Jac Schaeffer. The movie released on May 10, 2019.

Jojo Rabbit (2019)
Taika Waititi’s World War II comedy-drama ‘Jojo Rabbit‘ is a satirical take on the Nazi regime and Third Reich. Set in the backdrop of a fascist regime, the movie follows a German boy whose only friend is an imaginary Hitler. Rebel Wilson plays Fraulein Rahm, a ruthless instructor in the Hitler Youth Camp the boy enlists. Rahm’s lessons feed the students with ideas like Jews being the embodiment of mythical creatures.
Apart from helming the project, Waititi also plays the character of the imaginary Adolf Hitler. Sam Rockwell portrays a Nazi officer in the Hitler Youth camp while Scarlet Johansson dons the role of the boy’s mother. The cast includes Stephen Merchant, Alfie Allen, Thomasin McKenzie, and Roman Griffin. ‘Jojo Rabbit’ released in theaters on November 8, 2019.
