How did Redd Foxx earn his money and wealth?
Redd Foxx was born on December 9, 1922 and died on October 11, 1991. He is better known as an American comedian and actor, best recalled for his extraordinary comedy records and his featuring role on the 1970s sitcom Sanford and Son. Foxx besides doing comedy acts also did many sitcoms and featured in a few notable movies. Foxx gained disrepute with his vulgar nightclub acts during the 1950s and 1960s. Known as the “King of the Party Records”, he starred on more than 50 records during his lifetime. He also featured in Sanford, The Redd Foxx Show, and The Royal Family. His movie projects included Cotton Comes to Harlem (1970), All the Fine Young Cannibals (1960), Norman… Is That You? (1976) and Harlem Nights (1989).
In 2004, Foxx was ranked as the 24th best stand-up comedian by the Comedy Central Presents: 100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time ranked. Foxx not only affected many comedians but was often represented in popular culture as well, mainly as a result of his well-known catchphrases, body language and facial expressions displayed on Sanford and Son. During the five years of the show, Foxx won many awards like a Golden Globe Award and also achieved an additional three nominations for Golden Globe, together with 3 Primetime Emmy Award nominations.
In 1977, Foxx left the show Sanford and Son, after doing the six seasons and the show was also concluded with his departure. After leaving the show, he starred in a short-lived ABC variety show. In 1980 he was featured playing the role of Fred G. Sanford in a revival/spin-off, Sanford.
In 1986, he returned to television with the ABC series The Redd Foxx Show, which came to an end after telecasting 12 episodes due to low ratings. Foxx appeared as an Obi-Wan Kenobi-like character in the Donny & Marie show, Star Wars special. In tribute to his show, he mentioned the planet Sanford, which has no sun. Foxx returned to the television with The Royal Family series, in which he starred alongside with Della Reese.
Redd Foxx was married four times. He married Evelyn Killebrew in 1948 and finished in divorce in 1951. In 1956, he married Betty Jean Harris, a showgirl, and dancer. Foxx also adopted Harris’s nine-year-old daughter with her previous marriage named Debraca, who accepted the surname “Foxx”. This marriage also ended in divorce in 1975. Foxx again married Korean-American Yun Chi Chung in 1976, but the marriage ended in 1981. At the time of his death, Foxx was married to Ka Ho Cho. In October 1991, during a pause from shooting for The Royal Family, he underwent a heart attack on the set.
