‘S.W.A.T.’ is a crime drama series that follows Sergeant Daniel Harrelson AKA Hondo’s adventures, as he is asked to step up and lead an elite S.W.A.T. unit, to bridge the gap between the LAPD and the local citizens, following an unfortunate tragedy. It is a re-imagining of the eponymous 1975 series and is developed by Aaron Rahsaan Thomas and Shawn Ryan. It first premiered in November 2017 and opened to mixed reviews from the critics who stated that the procedural series lacks novelty and is packed with genre cliches.
However, the show managed to strike a chord with the audience. Over the years, the action series has amassed a dedicated fanbase and has spawned three seasons. Now that season 3 has concluded, fans are wondering: Will there be a ‘S.W.A.T.’ season 4? Let’s find out!
SWAT Season 4 Release Date
‘SWAT’ season 3 premiered on October 2, 2019, on CBS and concluded its run on May 20, 2020. The show was initially planned to have 22 episodes. But it was forced to have a shortened run of 21 episodes, after the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the show’s production in March 2020, thus making the penultimate episode, its makeshift season finale. The makers have expressed their gratitude for not being able to film just one episode, as opposed to other shows who suffered a more significant loss.
As far as season 4 is concerned, we have good news for you. On May 6, 2020, the network renewed the show because of its high popularity. However, it will most likely suffer a production delay and instead of dropping on its regular time slot, ‘SWAT’ season 4 is expected to release sometime in 2021 on CBS.

S.W.A.T. Season 4 Plot: What can it be About
In the finale of season three, Sergeant Hondo and his S.W.A.T. team have to band together with an unexpected ally, the DEA, to trace the drug traffickers after an unfortunate plane crash. Other than that, Hondo pulls out all the stops to mend the differences with Nichelle, while Luca experiences major anxiety revolving around his return to the battlefield. Deacon develops cold feet on being asked to give a brief speech surrounding mental health to the new batch of recruits.
Season 4 will pick up straight from the ending of the third season. Fortunately, the showrunners have planned to add the original finale of the season 3 in the fourth season. We can expect the season to feature a flashback episode, revolving around the 1992 Los Angeles riots. As the incident completed its 28th anniversary on April 29, 2020, the makers plan on taking the viewers back to Hondo’s teenage years, where he might experience the riot with his father. Apart from that, the season might continue to showcase the adventures of the elite S.W.A.T. team.
