Sheldon Souray was born on 13th July 1976 at Elk Point, Alberta, Canada. Souray moved with his family from Fishing Lake Metis Settlement to Alberta at a very young age. Souray attended Archbishop O’Leary Catholic High School.

Souray, the professional ice-hockey defenseman was a member of Fort Saskatchewan Traders in Alberta Junior Hockey League before playing in NHL. In 1994, Souray was drafted in NHL Entry Draft by New Jersey Devils. But Souray made his NHL debut in the 1997-98 season and made a reputation in the game. Souray played for New Jersey Devils until he was traded to Montreal Canadiens during 1999-2000 season. In Canadiens, his career developed. In 2004, Souray participated for the first time in All-Star Game.

In July 2012, Souray entered into a three-year contract worth $11 million with Anaheim Ducks. He retained his form during the 2012–13 season, during which he posted a career-best plus-minus rating of +19. While he was on the team, the Ducks entered the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs. This was a first for Souray since had qualified previously in 2005–06 when he played at the Stanley Cup playoffs. In an unfortunate event, Souray suffered a shoulder/wrist injury., following which he retired on June 30, 2015.

Sheldon Souray holds the NHL record for scoring the most number of single-season power-play goals by a defenceman, i.e., 19 goals, scored in 2006–07. He also holds the Edmonton Oilers team record for scoring the fastest ever two goals in a regular season game. Further, the Montreal Canadiens team record for scoring the most points in one game by a defenceman, the total being with six, is also held by him. Amongst his other achievements are the awards for having played in 2004, 2007, and 2009 in the NHL All-Star Game, winning the Hardest Shot at the NHL All-Star Skills Competition (he won in 2004 alongside Adrian Aucoin. In 2009, he also won the Hardest Shot at the Edmonton Oilers Skills Competition.

Souray married Angelica Bridges, former Baywatch actress in 2002 and the couple separated in 2007. Later he married Barbara Blank, known as Kelly Kelly in 2016 and separated in 2017. In 2000, Souray appeared as a guest in the soap opera One Life to Live broadcast on ABC network.
