‘Silicon Valley’, an HBO series, first premiered in April, 2016. The show has been created by Mike Judge, John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky. Interestingly, Judge had worked in a startup early in his career. He was there for just three months, but the experience gave him the background to later create ‘Silicon Valley’, a show that revolves around five young men who founded a startup company in Silicon Valley.
The show has always been well-liked by critics — and of course, audiences. When it first came out, the critical consensus was, “a hilarious take on contemporary technology and the geeks who create it”. That actually is a perfect way to capture the essence of the show that has a sitcom set up, but its themes are wide-ranging.
Over the last six seasons, the show has had steady ratings. At the same time, it has also managed be a major influence in pop culture. Bill Gates, the Founder of Microsoft, once commented about the show saying, “it reminded him of his own experiences”. Despite its success, HBO decided to cancel the show after six seasons. You must be wondering: why was it cancelled and if there is any chance that there will be a Silicon Valley season 7? Let’s find out.
Silicon Valley Season 7 Release Date: Will it Happen?
Silicon Valley season 6 premiered on October 27, 2019 and came to an end on December 8, 2019, after 7 episodes. You can watch all the episodes on HBO.
As far as the possibilities of another season is concerned, here’s what we know. On May 31, 2019, HBO announced that the the sixth season of comedy series will be its last.
“Silicon Valley has been a career and life highlight for us,” series executive producers/showrunners Mike Judge and Alec Berg said. “We’ll miss it desperately, but we’ve always let Pied Piper’s journey guide the way, and Season 6 seems to be the fitting conclusion. We are forever indebted to our incredible cast, crew and partners at HBO. At a certain point, there’s only so much we can do to make the world a better place.”
“In terms of last season, it’s a natural question; we have had conversations with them,” HBO president of programming Casey Bloys told Deadline in February. “Obviously when you get to the sixth season of a show, you have to talk about how much more is there in this — do you want to do more? — so we have had those conversations. We are open to any version but, as we did with Veep, we put it to [the producers] and say, ‘What do you think?’ They need to get in the room with the writers and see what feels right.”
Show’s leading star, Kumail Nanjiani posted a Goodbye note on Twitter, saying: “Goodbye forever Silicon Valley. Some day I may be able to articulate what these last 6 years have meant to me. But it may take another 6 years. For now, I’ll just say: thank you for letting me part of the family.”

Of course, the news of cancellation of the show is very disappointing. But, remember, anything is possible in the world of television. I am not suggesting that the show will be back. Silicon Valley season 7 is officially cancelled. But give it a few years. Most of the popular shows come back in some form or the other. I won’t be surprised if a spin-off of Silicon Valley or even a reboot is commissioned in near future. Till that happens, you can always watch the re-runs of your favorite show.
