Sky Rojo Season 3: Everything We Know

‘Sky Rojo’ is an explosive Spanish action show that follows three former sex workers on the run from their sadistic boss. The crime drama delves deeper into the twisted world the characters inhabit, with the central trio and their tormentors raising the stakes in their sordid battle against each other. The motivations and backstories of the characters slowly unfold, as do their present fates that seem to perpetually hang by a thread.

Created by Álex Pina (‘Money Heist‘) and Esther Martínez Lobato, the fast-paced Spanish series has transfixed the global Netflix community. Owing to the positive response from the critics and audiences, it has spawned two successful seasons. The season 2 finale does not disappoint and pummels viewers with twist after violent twist that leaves us craving for more. Curious about when (and if!) we might get to see more of Coral, Wendy, and Gina’s adventures? Here’s everything we know about ‘Sky Rojo’ season 3.

Sky Rojo Season 3 Release Date

‘Sky Rojo’ season 2 premiered on July 23, 2021, on Netflix. All 8 episodes of the season, each of which running for 22 to 31 minutes, landed simultaneously on the streaming platform. The explosive season finale is the exception and has a run time of 40 minutes.

As far as season 3 is concerned, there have been no official announcements so far as to whether it is green-lit or canceled. However, there are reasons to be hopeful, not the least of which is that the show is co-written by Álex Pina, the main creative force behind the wildly successful ‘Money Heist.’ Pina has an exclusive global overall deal with Netflix that involves him creating content exclusively for the streaming giant. The first part of ‘Money Heist’ season 5 is scheduled to premiere in September 2021, which hints at Pina’s ‘Sky Rojo’ also getting a substantial run of seasons.

Additionally, the show’s story arc leaves a lot of room for expansion and the season 2 finale ends on an open note, leading us to believe the chances for season 3 are quite high. Considering the gap between the premiere of season 1 (March 2021) and season 2 was just 4 months, production for the show seems to also be a relatively swift and uncomplicated affair (though the two seasons could have been filmed together and then released separately). If greenlit soon, this could further imply that ‘Sky Rojo’ season 3 will likely release sometime in early to mid-2022.

Sky Rojo Season 3 Cast: Who can be in it?

‘Sky Rojo’ follows Coral, Wendy, and Gina as they try to escape their savage boss Romeo. The potential season 3 will see cast members Verónica Sánchez, Lali Espósito, Yany Prado and Asier Etxeandia respectively resume their leading roles in the series. Miguel Ángel Silvestre, who essays Moisés, will likely return, though castmate Enric Auquer, who essays his brother Christian, might not, considering his character’s death in season 2. Most members of the supporting cast are expected to return for a potential season 3. The third season will quite possibly add some new members to the cast.

Sky Rojo Season 3 Plot: What can it be About?

The second season sees Coral, Wendy, and Gina doubling down on their fight against the ruthless Romeo and his men as they attempt not just to escape but significantly damage his flesh-trade empire. They attempt to steal large amounts of cash from the criminal boss, as well as get the women he holds hostage to escape. Moisés, too, seems to be on the brink of backstabbing his boss and making off with his money but is forced to change his mind after the tragic death of his brother. Season 2 ends with the central trio on a ferry to Madeira with millions of euros belonging to Romeo, who, along with Moisés, swears to exact revenge on them.

In the potential season 3, we will see the explosive cat-and-mouse game resume between Romeo and his former employees as the psychotic boss attempts to get his money back. More importantly, Moisés seems to have finally picked a side, and despite having saved Coral’s life earlier, he is unlikely to display such kindness again. In keeping with the trend, the potential third season will likely raise the stakes even further and be even more intense than the previous iterations.
