Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold: Everything We Know

It’s a good time to be a fan of Japanese video games right now, with plenty of high profile ones getting western releases in recent years. Japanese games and JRPGs (Japanese Role Playing Games) in particular, have never been accessible to the western gamer as they are now. Amidst this wave of older classics making their way to our shores comes ‘Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold’, the full English release of 2017’s casual fantasy game ‘The Snack World: Trejarers’.

Although not nearly as prominent as some of the other more prominent JRPGs series, Level-5’s light-hearted and insouciant dungeon-crawling RPG deserves attention for being a refreshing new addition to the genre. Read on to find out everything we know about the upcoming ‘Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold’.

Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold Gameplay: What to Expect?

Creators Level-5 has always intended ‘The Snack World’ to be a sprawling multimedia franchise spanning video games, manga, anime and more, much like their other properties such as ‘Inazuma Eleven’, ‘ Yo-kai Watch’ and ‘Professor Layton’. However, the foundations of this franchise were set by the game ‘The Snack World: Trejarers’, a cutesy roguelike RPG that released exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan in August 2017. The game even got an expanded release titled ‘Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold’ in Japan next year in 2018.

The game is set in a hyper-casual fantasy world that combines traditional fantasy elements with mundane elements from the real world such as smartphones and convenience stores. You play as the protagonist Chup, a wayfaring hero with a love for justice, and a desire for revenge against the evil corporation Large-Scale Leisure Facilities after they destroyed his village.

Like any RPG hero worth his salt, Chup is madly in love with the selfish Princess Melonia, daughter of King Papaya, and embarks on quests on her behest along with his companions – the pig-nosed dragon Francene, the goblin-like Gobsan, the brawny Bearnaise, and the graceless witch Mayonna.

Now ‘Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold’ is set to release worldwide very soon and bring the franchise into more mainstream contention. The web page for the game describes the game as follows:

“Become a heroic adventurer in this roguelike RPG, crawling through dungeons in your search for rare treasure, on a mission to seek revenge against the villainous Sultan Vinegar that violated your village! You can even tag along in teams of up to four to take down tenacious tyrants!”

‘Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold’ features an extensive character creator which will allow you to customize your character exactly how you want, right down to their eyes, hair, body and even mouth. You can also outfit your custom character with “jaras”, which are basically shrunk down weapons, shields, healing potions and status buffing colognes that can be switched on the fly. However, the quirkiest feature of ‘Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold’ is the “Snack” mechanic, which basically allows you to summon whimsical creatures to aid you in battle. You can even trade these snacks with other real-life players.

Of course, being an RPG you will spend most of your time accepting and completing various quests given to you by local NPCs (Non-Playable Characters) and collecting lots of loot. Nevertheless, the irreverent and self-aware tone of ‘Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold’ shines through even in what may initially seem like standard RPG fare.

‘Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold’ includes both the expansion packs and various other DLC for the original ‘The Snack World: Trejarers’.

Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold Developers: Who Are the People Behind the Game?

‘Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold’ is developed and published by Fukuoka based Japanese video game development studio Level-5. The studio was founded in 1998 by Japanese video game designer Akihiro Hino. They are best known for games such as ‘Yo-kai Watch 4’, ‘Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom’ and ‘Inazuma Eleven: Heroes’ Great Road’.

Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold Release Date: When and Where Can I Play It?
