‘Spectros’ has been lauded for its brilliant treatment of Brazilian folklore and Japanese gothic tales, which is served through a standard-setting comprising a local town and a few teens. Bearing a resemblance to ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ and ‘The Originals,’ the show has managed to satiate the appetite of avid horror fans. Naturally, fans are anxious to know when will ‘Spectros’ season 2 release and what can it be about. Well, here’s everything we know.
Spectros Season 2 Release Date
‘Spectros’ season 1 premiered on February 20, 2020, on Netflix. It consists of eight episodes with a runtime of 50-55 minutes each.
As far as season 2 is concerned, here’s what we know. Brazilian folklore is a melting pot of horrifying mythic creatures and nightmarish urban legends. Therefore, the supernatural thriller has lots of potential to continue further. If renewed, we expect ‘Spectros’ season 2 to release sometime in February 2021.
The concept of the show has been developed by Michael Ruman, Anderson Almeida, and Antônio de Freitas. And with ‘The Defenders’ and ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ showrunner Douglas Petrie serving as the creator, the second season can undoubtedly create the same magic, all over again.
Spectros Season 2 Cast: Who is in it?
Season 2 of the teen horror series might see a lot of returning characters from the first season. Namely, Danilo Mesquita as the part-time car mechanic, Cláudia Okuno, Mariana Sena as the teen who steals the creepy doll, Enzo Barone as the sharp-witted Lovecraft fan, Drop Dashi, Miwa Yanagizawa, Carlos Takeshi, Daniel Rocha, Kelzy Ecard, Norival Rizzo and Nicolas Trevijano.
We might also get to see some new faces in the second season.
Spectros Season 2 Plot: What can it be About?
Set in the Liberdade district, in São Paulo, season 1 follows five teenagers, who unintentionally awaken an evil necromancer after stealing an Annabelle-esque creepy doll. Because of which, they get embroiled in the sinister war between Brazilian witchcraft and Japanese Shinto ghosts, as the necromancer keeps bringing back, the vengeful spirits, to wreak havoc in their neighborhood.
Although season 1 ends on a mildly conclusive note, some things are left hanging loose, which can be carried forward in season 2. As Brazil is a fantastic stew of European, African, and Native American legends, season 2 might further explore the theme of supernatural vengeance, with the kids at its center.
In a press release for season 1, Douglas Petrie had shared some insights on the show. “Spectros will bring us unique stories deeply rooted in Brazilian culture that touches upon universally appealing themes of love, vengeance, and redemption making it an exciting show for everyone,” he stated. “We are thrilled to bring the Liberdade untold stories to Netflix members around the globe while showcasing the many facets of Latin America’s largest city.”
Therefore, in season 2, we can expect to see more sinister apparitions, flesh-eating zombies, scary women in white, things blowing up in flames, and a few more elements from the world of history and supernatural, as the unruly but smart teenagers embark on a new misadventure, while also dealing with the aftermath of the season 1 finale.
