Will There be a Stargirl Season 2?

Based on Lee Moder and Geoff Johns’ ‘Stars and STRIPE’ comics, ‘Stargirl’ tells the story of a teenage girl, who embraces the long-lost legacy of the Cosmic Staff. Earnest, lively, and optimistic, the series follows Courtney Whitemore as she rises from an ordinary teen to a superhero. The DC show, during its inaugural run, managed to earn the adoration of fans, thanks to its youthful exuberance. And now that season 1 has come to a spectacular conclusion, what can fans expect from the series’ future? Well, here’s everything we know about its second edition.

Stargirl Season 2 Release Date:

‘Stargirl’ season 1 released on May 18, 2020, on DC Universe. It ended with its 13th episode on August 10, 2020. Episodes also dropped the day after the DC premiere on The CW. Although DC does not report viewership numbers, we do know that the first season did well for The CW, averaging above 1 million viewers per episode in the Nielsen Live+Same Day ratings. As a result, in July 2020, the show was renewed for its second outing.

However, here is the twist. Although ‘Stargirl’ was commissioned as a DC original, the second installment will air exclusively only on The CW network and its free, ad-supported streaming platforms. This will make it a CW series from season 2 onward. DC has been cutting down on its shows since it is now focussing more on its primary comic book business and fan-oriented news. A release date for the new season is yet to be announced and it has not been confirmed when production will start. If filming begins in the next couple of months, ‘Stargirl’ season 2 will most likely premiere in Fall 2021.

Stargirl Season 2 Cast: Who Can be in it?

The cast of ‘Stargirl’ is led by Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore aka Stargirl, Yvette Monreal as Yolanda Montez aka Wildcat, Anjelika Washington as Beth Chapel aka Doctor Mid-Nite II, Cameron Gellman as Rick Tyler aka Hourman II, Trae Romano as Mike Dugan (Stargirl’s step-brother), Jake Austin Walker as Henry King Jr, Meg DeLacy as Cindy Burman aka Shiv, Neil Jackson as Jordan Mahkent aka Icicle, Christopher James Baker as Henry King Sr. aka Brainwave, Amy Smart as Barbara Whitmore (Courtney’s mother), Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan aka S.T.R.I.P.E., and Hunter Sansone as Cameron Mahkent. Season 2 should see most of the lead cast making a comeback.

Stargirl Season 2 Plot: What Can it be About?

Since season 1 neatly wraps up the storyline that had begun in the first episode, the second iteration will follow Stargirl as she evolves further as a superhero. She still needs to learn to use her powers (endowed by the Cosmic Staff). Of course, there will be stronger, new enemies to fight. We might also see the introduction of younger heroes. We can additionally witness the comeback of the Shining Knight, who is not featured in season 1 but who, according to the comics, had left Blue Valley to discover the last-remaining Seven Soldiers of Victory. Additionally, Courtney will need to find new JSA members who are fit to wield the superpowers of the Green Lantern and Johnny Thunder.
