Will There be a Stranger Season 3?

‘Stranger’ is a Korean thriller drama that has progressed to be a success, both in its home country and on the international platform. In fact, it has created a league of its own. Over its two seasons, we have seen the show narrating taut stories, interlinked with deep character analyses and thought-provoking revelations. The series is so ambitious that it has received nominations for several accolades, winning the Grand Prize for Television at the 54th Baeksang Arts Awards. ‘Stranger’ airs on Netflix for its global audience and it wrapped up its second season in October 2020. Let’s now check out the details of its next edition.

Stranger Season 3 Release Date:

‘Stranger’ season 2 premiered on August 15, 2020, on Netflix. It wrapped up with its 16th episode on October 4, 2020. Unlike most Korean shows, ‘Stranger’ was conceptualized as a potential multi-seasonal project. Moreover, each season of the series tells a self-contained story — leaving room for the creators to explore new plot arcs in the future episodes. And both its seasons have opened to positive reviews. Therefore, in terms of content and response, ‘Stranger’ holds the scope to spawn a new edition. If Netflix gives it a go-ahead soon, we can expect ‘Stranger’ season 3 to premiere sometime in 2022.

Stranger Season 3 Cast: Who Can be in it?

The lead cast of ‘Stranger’ comprises Cho Seung-woo as Hwang Si-Mok, a prosecutor, employed at Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office. Season 2 sees Si-Mok joining the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office in the Criminal Legislation Division. Bae Doona plays Han Yeo-jin, Senior Inspector at Yongsan Police Station. Lee Joon-hyuk stars as Seo Dong-Jae, Si-Mok’s colleague, while Yoon Se-ah essays Lee Yeon-Jae – the Chairwoman and CEO of Hanjo Group.

Jeon Hye-jin joins the cast in season 2 as Choi Bit (Chief of the Intelligence Bureau and the Investigative Procedure Reformation Unit). Choi Moo-sung stars as Woo Tae-ha (Chief of the Criminal Legislation Division at the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office). In season 3 we expect Cho Seung-woo and Bae Doona, accompanied by most of the lead cast, to make a comeback.

Stranger Season 3 Plot: What Can it be About?

In the second season, we see the Prosecutors’ Office and the National Police Agency getting entangled in a dispute over authority over the investigative proceedings. Meanwhile, Hwang Si-Mok and Han Yeo-jin attempt to solve a series of crimes on their own. The finale wraps up on a conclusive note, revealing the main antagonist to be Woo Tae Ha — someone who had been as unassuming as possible, all this while. The conclusion tells us how under-qualified men grab the upper positions of hierarchy by resorting to dirty tricks and schemes.

With season 2 having ended on a conclusive note, we expect the new season to pick up another interesting case (s), with Si-Mok and Yeo Jin leading the investigation.
