The South Korean horror-drama series ‘Sweet Home’ is based on a webcomic of the same name by Kim Kan-Bi and Hwang Young-Chan. Cha Hyun-su is a loner who moves to a new apartment after his whole family dies in an accident. At the same time, an apocalypse rages on, turning humans into monsters. But, Hyun-su and the other residents in the building fight to survive and hold on to their humanity. The show, created by Netflix and Production Plan, premiered in December 2020. It has gained a solid fan base for the superior quality of visual effects, which provide an impressive and realistic experience. This begs the question: is there a season 2? Let’s find out!
Sweet Home Season 2 Release Date
‘Sweet Home’ season 1 released in its entirety on December 18, 2020, on Netflix. Season 1 consists of ten episodes with a runtime of 44-59 minutes each.
As far as the renewal of season 2 is concerned, we are yet to receive an official statement. However, looking at the burgeoning popularity of Korean drama, this horror series seems like a promising addition. Season 1 ends by leaving the viewers on the edge, so there is hope for season 2. If the show hits the expected mark with Netflix, another season may be ordered. In that case, we may see ‘Sweet Home’ season 2 release sometime in early 2022.
Sweet Home Season 2 Cast: Who is in it?
Song Kang plays the lead character Cha Hyun-su, a high schooler who moves into an old apartment complex with strange ongoings. Pyeon Sang-wook (Lee Jin-wook) is another resident in the same building who is determined to fight off the monsters. Lee Eun-hyeok (Lee Do-hyun) is a medical student who proves to be quite the mastermind in deciding the plan of action for the survivors. Other actors in the series are Lee Si-young (Seo Yi-kyung), Kim Nam-hee (Jeong Jae-heon), Go Min-si (Lee Eun-yoo), and Park Kyu-young (Yoon Ji-su). If there is a season 2, all the principal cast members will return to reprise their roles, along with new faces. Some of the recurring cast members may not return if their character has died.
Sweet Home Season 2 Plot: What can it be about?
Hyun-su is terribly broken when his family dies in a car accident, and he is suicidal when he first moves to the new apartment. Things get worse since a mysterious phenomenon is causing humans to turn into savage monsters. It is not surprising that he also ends up being exposed and ultimately turns into a beast. The survivors in the building are conflicted regarding what should be done about him and others who start transforming. As much as he tries to get a hold of his instincts, Hyun-su ends up causing damage, which he regrets deeply. The group of survivors remains close and also trust Hyun-su to some extent that he will not harm them.
Season 1 ends with him being captured and taken, possibly to be experimented on since he is one of the few who is able to resist complete “monsterization” and has been able to hold on to his humanity. At the same time, the rest of them are being taken to a safe camp, although they feel betrayed by Yi-kyung. Eun-hyeok, who had been plotting and scheming right from the start to keep themselves safe from the monsters, starts to turn into one and decides to stay back while the others leave.
If there is a season 2, it will reveal what plans fate has for Hyun-su and the other survivors. What becomes of Eun-hyeok after he turns is also something we may see in the next season, if there is one. The government experiments not only failed to find a cure but ended up torturing the “monsters” who have become vengeful and believe that they are a part of “evolution.” It surely sounds like a declaration of war. Hyun-su is probably about to face the same fate but will he remain to stand the human ground?
