Branded as one of The CW’s legacy series, ‘The 100’ is a loose adaptation of the eponymous novel series by Kass Morgan. The post-apocalyptic science-fiction drama follows a group of criminal survivors, sent back to earth, from a spaceship called the Ark. They are assigned with this mission to see if the planet is habitable at all — following its destruction by a nuclear apocalypse. Although the story had started off on this note, over the seasons, it has evolved to include several more plot arcs and new characters.
For instance, in the seventh edition, we follow the surviving inhabitants as they struggle to defeat the resurrected Dark Commander. Clarke lands into conflict with the mysterious Disciples and holds the key to winning the last war. Season 7 also dives deep into the Anomaly, which is a wormhole linking six planets. Well, the season, after some major twists, delivered a remarkable finale, which seems to wrap up the central plotlines. So, does this mean that ‘The 100’ has reached its end? Let’s find out.
The 100 Season 8 Release Date: Renewed or Cancelled?
‘The 100’ season 7 premiered on May 20, 2020, on The CW. It ended with its 16th episode on September 30, 2020. The finale sees Clarke taking the final test, facing her celestial judge, Lexa. However, she fails and this puts the entire humanity under threat. When Raven steps up to appeal the decision, a clash breaks out between the Disciples and the people of Sanctum. This is when Octavia asks everyone to drop their weapons, explaining that humans can unite. Finally, the survivors are allowed to transcend.
But here is the twist. Clarke is not allowed to transcend since her past actions have consequences. However, she realizes that her friends have decided, not to transcend after all. They decide to stay back at Sanctum and become the last members of the human race — since they do not have the power to procreate.
That being said, we must admit that season 7 delivers a pretty conclusive finale. So is there any scope for the story to continue from here? Well, sadly, the answer is NO! When season 7 was announced by The CW, it was already confirmed that it would be the last iteration from the series. In August 2019, creator Jason Rothenberg shared the news on his Twitter profile:
“With #The100 Season 6 finale just days away, I have some bittersweet news to share: Season 7 will be our last. We are eternally grateful to WB & CW for always allowing us to tell our story the way we want to & to wrap the show on our terms. What an incredible ride this has been!”
