‘The Challenge’ is MTV’s superhit unscripted series that is a spinoff to the network’s two reality shows, ‘The Real World’ and ‘Road Rules’. Featuring alums from MTV’s other game competitions, as well as, earlier challengers from ‘The Challenge’ itself, it pits participants against one another as they partake in multiple difficult challenges to avoid elimination. The winner gets a grand cash prize. Since its premiere on June 1, 1998, the series has spanned a whopping 35 seasons to date. And it shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Here’s everything you need to know about its next edition.
The Challenge Season 36 Release Date:
‘The Challenge’ season 35, titled, ‘The Challenge: Total Madness’ premiered on April 1, 2020, on MTV. It ended with its 16th episode on July 15, 2020. The show’s 35th edition proved to be the franchise’s highest-rated season in eight years, with total viewerships up by 10%. The series is also one of the titles that have helped MTV in maintaining its spot as the #1 cable network among P18-34.
Hence, it came as no surprise when the channel announced on July 9, 2020, that the reality competition has been renewed for its 36th installment. Although MTV has not announced a release date yet, we expect ‘The Challenge’ season 36 to premiere sometime in early 2021. The series has been releasing two seasons since 2017 but owing to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we expect the new outing’s premiere to be pushed back to next year.

‘The Challenge’ is hosted by TJ Lavin, who will undoubtedly make a return in season 36 as well. Born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, TJ is a former BMX rider who later ventured into dirt jumping. The DK Dirt Circuit Champion is a winner of the Gravity Games, the European championship, and CFB. Titled as the King of Dirt in 1995, TJ joined ‘The Challenge’ in 2005 and has been the only constant cast member in the show.

This was the first outing from the show since season 11, which did not see any stars who had made a direct debut in ‘The Challenge’.
