Developed by Mike Flanagan (‘Doctor Sleep’), ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’ is the second chapter in the supernatural horror anthology series ‘The Haunting.’ It is preceded by ‘The Haunting of Hill House’, which released in October 2018. ‘Bly Manor’ is a modern adaptation of Henry James’ 1898 classic novella ‘The Turn of the Screw.’ Several cast members of ‘Hill House’ also appear in ‘Bly Manor,’ although they portray different characters.
Since its release, the series has been getting rave reviews from the critics, with special praises allocated for the performances by its cast, impeccable direction, intriguing storyline, and unsettling and eerie score. In case you are wondering: will there be a ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’ season 2, we have got your back!.
The Haunting of Bly Manor Season 2 Release Date
‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’ premiered on October 9, 2020, on Netflix. It comprises nine hour-long episodes. As far as season 2 goes, here’s everything we know. Netflix has maintained a strong record of supporting content that is innovative and engaging. Although ‘Bly Manor’ easily fits both of these criteria, the chance of it getting extended beyond a season appears slim, owing to the conclusive ending. So as of today, it is highly unlikely that ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’ season 2 will ever get made.
However, since it is a part of an anthology series, a third entry into ‘The Haunting’ franchise is most likely to follow. If and when Netflix decides to greenlit the series, we expect ‘The Haunting’ season 3 to release sometime in 2022 or later.
The Haunting of Bly Manor Season 2 Cast: Who is in it?
Starring as Dani Clayton, Victoria Pedretti leads the cast of ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor.’ The series also features Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Peter Quint, Amelia Eve as Jamie, Rahul Kohli as Owen, T’Nia Miller as Hannah Grose, Amelie Bea Smith as Flora Wingrave, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Miles Wingrave, Henry Thomas as Henry Wingrave, Kate Siegel as Viola Llyod, and Catherine Parker as Perdita Lloyd. Pedretti, Jackson-Cohen, Thomas, Siegel, and Parker all had worked with Flanagan in ‘Hill House.’
It’s not conventional for creators of anthology series to bring back most members of the regular cast from the previous season. Still, it’s perfectly understandable as the showrunners often develop a level of comfortability while working with certain actors. In the next edition of the franchise, several original cast members might come back to play different roles.
The Haunting of Bly Manor Season 2 Plot: What can it be About?
‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’ revolves around the arrival of Dani Clayton to the eponymous house and the unusual things she witnesses there. In the course of the season, Dani grows close to the inhabitants of the house, especially the two young children, Miles and Flora. She also falls deeply in love with the gardener Jaime. In the season finale, titled ‘The Beast in the Jungle’, Dani is nearly killed by the ghost of the pond, or Viola Lloyd’s spirit, but Flora saves her. The ghost grabs Flora instead and begins walking towards the pond. Henry arrives and tries to save his niece, almost losing his life in the process.
Just before the ghost is about to take the young girl into the watery depths of the pond, Dani agrees to let Viola possess her. By doing this, she frees Bly Manor from a centuries-old curse. She and Jaime spend the next few years together. Although they are incredibly happy, they know that Viola can show up at any moment. After Dani starts seeing the ghost in her reflections, she goes back to Bly Manor and drowns herself in the pond. She becomes a part of the spirit, along with Viola, transforming it into a much less evil entity. The story ends just as it began, in present times. The old woman narrating the story turns out to be Jaime, while the would-be bride is Flora.
The third edition of the franchise might showcase a new story featuring a different set of characters. It will probably revolve around the lives of the inhabitants of another haunted house/manor, and the life-threatening incidents and spirits they are forced to confront.
