Will There be a The Hummingbird Project Sequel?

‘The Hummingbird Project’ is a financial thriller film that follows the Zaleski cousins, who embark on a mission to construct a fiber-optic tunnel from Kansas to New York to increase the speed of financial data transmissions by 1 unit to reap profits. With a stellar cast comprising Jesse Eisenberg, Alexander Skarsgård, Salma Hayek, and Michael Mando, the movie was lauded for its innovative narrative and the compelling performances by the talented cast members. Are you curious about whether ‘The Hummingbird Project’ is getting a sequel anytime soon? Don’t worry, we have got you covered.

The Hummingbird Project Sequel Release Date

‘The Hummingbird Project’ released on March 15, 2019, in the United States. Prior to that, the film had a world premiere at the TIFF on September 8, 2018. It opened to good reviews from the critics and the audiences alike. The idea behind the script was especially praised for its uniqueness.

Given the ending where Anton Zaleski suggests another way to capture the market, a potential sequel of this financial thriller does make sense. However, there is no official news about part 2 just yet. However, if such a project were to be greenlit, we can expect ‘The Hummingbird Project 2’ to release sometime in 2022 or later.

The Hummingbird Project Sequel Cast: Who can be in it?

Jesse Eisenberg and Alexander Skarsgård star as Vincent and Anton Zaleski, respectively. The cousins are determined to build the tunnel, but given that the former is diagnosed with a critical health issue, it seems unlikely that Eisenberg will reprise his role in the sequel, that is, unless his treatment works and he jumps back into the game, the chances of which are slim. However, we could see Skarsgård reappear as Anton. Apart from this, Salma Hayek, their ex-boss, can also be expected to make a comeback.

The Hummingbird Project Sequel Plot: What can it be About?

The movie is about the Zaleski cousins who are working on Wall Street under Eva Torres. However, Vincent has an idea to construct a tunnel comprising of a 4-inch fiber optic cable from Kansas to the New York Stock Exchange so that they can increase the speed of financial transactions to 16 milliseconds and gain the upper hand in the market. They also leave their job, which has Torres feeling betrayed. Initially, the project doesn’t really face too many hiccups, especially since the contractor, Mark Vega, is considered to be the best in the business.

But as time goes on, the challenges start piling up. One issue they face is that the speed needs to be reduced by 1 unit from 17 milliseconds for their venture to actually be profitable. So this difference (which is the same amount of time taken by a Hummingbird to flap its wings once) is crucial. Anton is trying hard to solve this difficult problem. Moreover, the business-minded Vincent is facing other issues related to the construction and his deteriorating health.

Given Vincent’s advanced prognosis, it does not seem as though he will be around for much longer. Hence, we believe that the sequel could bring forth Anton and Eva as the protagonists, embroiled in a bitter rivalry on Wall Street. After all, he is quite the intellectual, and Eva has many resources at her disposal. A fierce battle between them would be full of tension, and it would make for one compelling storyline.
