The Innocent Man Season 2: Premiere Date, Cast, Host, Recap, Update

It can be difficult to find a series that is exactly what you want to watch: some are too slow-paced, while others don’t provide a definite answer and leave the audience figuring out the end on their own. That’s where The Innocent Man might score with you. It is a fast-paced, twisted, wild and based on John Grisham’s non-fiction book that focuses on two murders that took place in Oklahoma in the 1980s. In both these cases, it is suspected that false confessions were obtained and the suspects were convicted wrongfully. It premiered on December 14, 2018, on Netflix. Here’s everything we know about its second season.

The Innocent Man Cast: Who’s in it?

The Innocent Man includes interviews with the victims’ friends and families, Ada residents, attorneys, journalists, and others involved in the cases. John Grisham, the notable writer of the novel The Innocent Man, himself appears in the series, and so does attorney Barry Scheck, co-director of the Innocence Project. Apart from them, season one has an elaborate star cast comprising of creator Clay Tweel, Heather McPhaul, Maura Antas, J.J. Arends, Serena Burns, Kayleen Casey, and Seth Michael Connell, among others. There’s a good possibility that the same star cast would appear in the second season if confirmed.

The Innocent Man Plot: What is it about?

The six-part documentary series, The Innocent Man focuses on two gruesome killings that shook the small town of Ada, Oklahoma, and the contentious link of circumstances that trailed then on.

The first murder that the book outlines involves the tale of two men — Ron Williamson and Dennis Fritz, who got convicted of thrashing, man-handling, raping, and ultimately killing a young waitress named Debra Sue Carter, aged 21, in Ada, Oklahoma, in 1982. After spending over a decade in prison, they were finally absolved of the heinous crime by the Innocence Project. It’s yet a mystery as to how they were acquitted and left scot-free to walk out of prison. It’s also yet unknown if the two convicts were actually the right men convicted or if someone was by way framed. The second story is the strange murder of Debbie Sue Carter, by Tommy Ward and Karl Fontenot. Though they’ve pleaded innocent, they remain convicted with life imprisonment

The author himself is of the opinion that it is such a weird chill-biting story that most people would not believe and accept it if it was written in the way of a spin-off novel. “If I wrote The Innocent Man as a novel, folks probably wouldn’t believe it,” are Grisham’s words. There’s still no clarity how the show will continue on with the stories in a second season. We aren’t quite certain what would need to happen for a season 2 to come together and have the audience yet once again binge watch the show. It could theoretically linger on by examining related circumstances of people who preserved their virtuousness even after being imprisoned.

The Innocent Man Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?

Innocent Man season 1 premiered on December 14, 2018. A sequel, to the original first season that catered to a nail-biting audience, remains yet undisclosed, with the creator of the series, Clay Tweel, yet undecided about a release date, and a possible storyline for season 2.

Tweel is fervently hoping for viewers to get hooked onto a second season as well i,e., if and when it releases, which will also serve as a concrete pay-off to the mystery of Denice Haraway, the waitress in the first season. There is a likelihood that if there are fresh advances in the cases of Ward and Fontenot, who still remain guilty, The Innocent Man could continue on to a second season, examining what happens after season 1. Clay Tweel claimed to new media that he would be open to another season of The Innocent Man if there was noteworthy progress in either of the two murder cases at the soul of the series. When asked to confirm another round of episodes, by way of season 2, Tweel said: “The legal system is advancing so slowly in Denice Haraway’s case, and with Tommy [Ward] and Karl’s [Fontenot] case, I would be keen in doing whatever I can to see those being pushed forward and sped up.”

For those who tuned into and religiously followed the six episodes of season 1 of The Innocent Man, well, they will just have to wait and watch out. The series seems to tell a one-season story, and even though the chance of a second season still looms large, viewers may have to wait a long time until there is a significant progress in the said cases to give shape to a new season. Meanwhile, Netflix is yet to confirm and endorse The Innocent Man season 2 . However slim the likelihood of a potential next season, we can hope for The Innocent Man season 2 to release by 2021 at the very least. We will be monitoring relevant sources and updating this section with the latest news as we hear more, so do keep an eye out on us!
