‘The Orville’ is a science-fiction series that puts a comedic spin on the genre. The show centers around the titular spacecraft and the adventures of its crew members. Set in the 25th century, USS Orville explores different parts of the galaxy. The action-adventure series often makes interesting and sometimes hilarious references to ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation.’
Created by Seth MacFarlane, the series first released on September 10, 2017. While the first season did not seem to impress the critics, the second season showed some promise. The second installment garnered appreciation for employing a focused and thoughtful approach to the storyline without dampening the fun element. Critics felt that season 2 did a better job of cashing in on the talents of its cast members. Although some of them thought that the first round was a little chaotic in terms of its tone, the show seemed to have found its footing in season 2 and established its strength using comedy. So, are you wondering if the show bagged another round? Here is all that we know about the potential season 3!
The Orville Season 3 Release Date
‘The Orville’ season 2 premiered on December 30, 2018, on Fox, with the season coming to a close on April 25, 2019. The second edition consists of 14 episodes that are about 48 minutes long.
As far as the third cycle is concerned, here is what you need to know. Fox recommissioned the series for its third round on May 11, 2019. But a couple of months later, it was announced that the space drama would be moving from Fox to the streaming platform Hulu. The upcoming season will have 11 episodes, which will reportedly roll out on a weekly basis on the streamer. Although the third edition has a lower episode count, not much will be lost in terms of content since the new episodes will run 12-15 minutes longer than usual.

The production for the upcoming edition commenced in October 2019 but faced several interruptions due to the pandemic since March 2020. But you would be happy to know that as of March 2021, the team resumed filming yet again. If there are no more setbacks, the fans can expect ‘The Orville’ season 3 to release sometime in Q1 2022.
The Orville Season 3 Cast: Who is in it?
Most of the key players are returning for season 3. This means we will see the following people reprise their roles: Seth MacFarlane (Captain Ed Mercer), Adrianne Palicki (Commander Kelly Grayson), Penny Johnson Jerald (Dr. Claire Finn), Scott Grimes (Lieutenant Gordon Malloy), Peter Macon (Lieutenant Commander Bortus), Jessica Szohr (Lieutenant Talla Keyali), J. Lee (Lieutenant Commander John LaMarr), and Mark Jackson (Isaac).
On the other hand, Chad Coleman will return to portray Klyden, and Ted Danson and Halston Sage might return as Admiral Perrywill and Lieutenant Alara Kitan, respectively. Anne Winters has been added to the cast to essay the role of Charly Burke, and it looks like Eliza Taylor will also be a part of the upcoming season, although the latter’s role is currently kept under wraps.
The Orville Season 3 Plot: What is it About?
In season 2, the crew of USS Orville meets new creatures on different planets such as Moclus, Xelaya, and Nyxia. They even make contact with a civilization on Regor 2, who have been searching for intelligent life forms. On Kaylon 1, the crew learns more about Isaac’s people and their disturbing past. Isaac’s experiments with the time-travel device go wrong in the penultimate episode. But it looks like the original timeline might have been restored as Kelly and Ed seem to be at the point in time when they began their relationship. Unfortunately, the titular starship is destroyed in the process.
The third season will look deeper into the consequences of Isaac’s decisions in episodes 8 and 9 of season 2. Moreover, we will know what happens after Kaylon attack the Planetary Union and how it affects Isaac. MacFarlane shared that we will learn something important about Claire and also explore the planet Xelaya. We might not have seen the last of Krills, who seem to be significant to the storylines of the upcoming edition. But we have been promised a lot of battles, parties, and almost triple the visual effects!
