Will There be a The Oval Season 2?

Tyler Perry’s ‘The Oval’ is a prime time soap opera that airs on BET. The story revolves around a clan living in the White House after being seated on the high seat by people of power. The series follows the multiple ups and downs in the lives of the family members as they juggle personal struggles and political issues while staying in America’s most coveted mansion.

With a strong start of 1 million Live + Same Day viewers during its premiere, season 1 of ‘The Oval’ continued to draw good ratings throughout its run. So this brings us to the question — does the show have the potential to span another season? Well, we might have some good news in store!

The Oval Season 2 Release Date:

‘The Oval’ season 1 premiered on October 23, 2019, on BET. It ended with its 25th episode on July 22, 2020. Owing to its rave reviews, the series was renewed for its second edition on April 27, 2020, ahead of season 1’s finale. BET president Scott Mills confirmed the news in a statement to THR, saying: “We are excited to continue our partnership with Tyler Perry and for the renewals of our two Wednesday night programming staples, The Oval and Sistas. BET is committed to investing in quality programming from top industry power players and giving viewers more of the content they love and expect from the brand across our platforms.”

Production for the new outing was scheduled to commence in July 2020 at Tyler Perry’s Atlanta studios, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The show was among the first titles to resume filming in the U.S., in spite of the health crisis. Moreover, Perry had also announced that the shooting would be executed at an accelerated pace; which includes completing one episode within a span of 1-2 days. Since most of the crew members are local, production is expected to wrap up fast; most probably by Fall 2020. If things move according to plan hereafter, we can expect ‘The Oval’ season 2 to premiere sometime in early 2021.
