The edge-of-the-seat thriller show is based on an eponymous novel by bestselling author Harlan Coben. ‘The Stranger’ marks the third collaboration between the author and Netflix, the previous ones being ‘The Five’ and Michael C. Hall starrer ‘Safe.’ The mystery drama has been adapted by BAFTA and Emmy award-winning screenwriter Danny Brocklehurst (‘Shameless’), and the directorial duties fall upon Daniel O’Hara and Hannah Quinn.

The Stranger Plot: What is it About?
The Price family is a happy family comprising Adam, his wife Corinne (who is expecting) and their two sons – Thomas and Ryan. The family is super pumped to welcome the new member, until Corinne suffers a miscarriage and has a nervous breakdown. As the family is coping with the loss, a stranger happens to cross Adam, revealing a secret that shatter’s his marriage – “Corinne made it up. She was never pregnant!”
On confrontation, Corinne admits her lie, adding that there’s more to the truth than meets the eye. The next morning, she leaves her family and vanishes into the woods. A distraught Adam leaves no stone unturned to find his wife but his harum-scarum investigation opens a chain of conspiracies which unfortunately centers around Corinne’s disappearance. A murder takes place and the police informs Adam about Corinne’s involvement in the gruesome incident.
The show also teases witchcraft by demonstrating an occult group conducting macabre practices around a bonfire, appearances of a goat’s severed head in Adam’s house, etc.
Adam is on the verge of losing his mind as he gets entangled into something far more sinister than Corinne’s betrayal. He soon finds himself in the middle of a threateningly inauspicious stratagem that not only disturbs his family but also endangers their existence. Will he ever find Corinne? Who is the stranger and how does she know about people’s deepest and darkest secrets?
The Stranger Season 2 Release Date: When Will it Premiere?
‘The Stranger’ season 1 premiered on January 30, 2020 on Netflix.
As far as the next season goes, here’s what we know. The eponymous novel on which the show is based does not have a sequel. Which means, if the makers want to continue the story they will have to come up with an original screenplay with the same characters. While that may sound odd, it is not an uncommon practice. The most famous example of such a show is actually ‘Game of Thrones’, which started off as an adaptation but didn’t remain so by the end.
What also works in the favor of another season is the way the show ends. Netflix has mastered the art of leaving some threads open so that they can be continued in the next season, if the show does well. While ultimately viewership numbers might decide the future of ‘The Strangers’, there’s a good chance that it will get renewed. Optimistically speaking, you can expect The Stranger season 2 to release sometime in January 2021.
