Toni Braxton, real name Tonu Michelle Braxton, was born on 7 October 1967 in Maryland, US to Michael and Evelyn Braxton. Toni, along with her 4 sisters began singing at a young age at their father’s church. Due to her father Michael being a minister, the girls were raised in a strict environment. All the sisters were not allowed to engage in popular culture however, they were allowed to listen to singers such as Chaka Khan and Steve Wonder. After Toni completed her high school studies, she made a decision to become a music teacher.
