‘Top Chef’ season 17, titled ‘Top Chef: All-Stars LA’ premiered on March 19, 2020, on Bravo TV. It ended with its 14th episode on June 18, 2020. Although the channel has not officially renewed the show for its next edition, casting calls are already underway for the 2021 season. Therefore, news of the new installment should be announced soon. Top Chef Season 18 Cast: Host & Judges

Since season 2, the show has been presented by Padma Lakshmi, who will definitely make a comeback in season 18 as well. The primary judges are Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons, who are expected to return for the next iteration. Across the episodes, we also see guest judges making appearances. They are usually notable personalities from the food and wine industry.

Each season features a group of chefs, competing with each other to take home the grand cash prize and the coveted, eponymous title. Season 17 raised the stakes even higher by featuring 15 fierce contestants — finalists, front runners, and fan favorites from previous seasons. Three of the best, Stephanie Cmar, Melissa King, and Bryan Voltaggio made it to the finale. Season 18 will see a new team of participants attempting to make a name for themselves in the culinary world.

What Can Top Chef Season 18 be About?

Each weekly episode of ‘Top Chef’ consists of a Quickfire Challenge and an Elimination Challenge. The winner of the Quickfire Challenge is declared to be immune from eviction or given a prize or advantage above his/her peers. The one who loses in the Elimination Challenge needs to pack his/her knives and go home. After weekly evictions, the last-remaining contestant is finally declared as the winner for the season.

Of course, in each season, the producers shake up things a bit to keep the format interesting. For instance, in season 17, the finale was held in Italy, marking the first time the show was filmed in Europe. The grand cash prize was US$250,000, the highest in ‘Top Chef’ history. The upcoming season will stick to the same basic format but it is expected to include a few twists in the gameplay — in order to do away with the monotony of repetitions.
