Smith was born on September 25, 1968, in Philadelphia, where he grew up as well. While still at school, he teamed up with DJ Jazzy Jeff and Clarence Holmes who together made music through raps and battle rhymes. Their first single was “Girls Ain’t Nothing but Trouble” (1987).
