Netflix’s ‘Work It‘ is a charming dance movie that follows the story of a girl who can’t dance. In order to get into her dream college, she lies about being the part of her school’s dance crew, The Thunderbirds. However, when she fails to become a Bird, she decides to make her own dance team. With the help of her best friend, she brings together some “diamonds from the rough”, all of whom come with unique dance skills of their own. Together, the crew works hard to win a dance competition.
The film ends on a high note for the team, opening the doors of more opportunities for them. This makes us wonder what’s next for these kids. Where do they go from here? Will we get a sequel of ‘Work It’? Here’s all you should know about it.
Work It 2 Release Date
‘Work It’ released on Netflix on August 7, 2020. The film received favourable reviews for giving a fresh spin to a familiar genre. (You can read our review of the movie here.) Netflix usually depends on the response of the audience to determine the future of a movie. The prospects of a sequel for ‘Work It’ also depend on that. As of now, there have been no official announcements about the project. However, the ending of the film does leave enough room for the story to continue. If it does receive a green light, we expect ‘Work It 2’ to release sometime in 2022.
Work It 2 Cast: Who’s in it?
‘Work It’ stars Sabrina Carpenter in the role of Quinn Ackerman, a girl with no dancing abilities who brings together a ragtag crew to win a dance competition. Liza Koshy plays the role of her best friend, Jas. Jordan Fisher appears in the role of Quinn’s love-interest and the choreographer of the dance team, Jake. Additional cast includes Keiynan Lonsdale, Michelle Buteau, Naomi Snieckus, and Drew Ray Tanner, among others.
For the sequel, we expect the main cast to reprise their roles. The story could not continue without Carpenter, Koshy, Fisher, and Lonsdale. We also expect new dancers to join the crew with new antagonists appearing as challengers.
Work It 2 Plot: What can it be about?
‘Work It’ ends with TBD winning the Work It dance competition. Quinn realises that she doesn’t need to dance just because it helps her get into college. It is also something that she enjoys very much. After the competition, Quinn receives an offer to get into NYU. Interestingly, both Jas and Isaiah (who has given up the title of Juilliard) have also received admissions in the New York Dance Academy.
In the sequel, we could see the crew reunite in New York, pursuing another opportunity to showcase their dancing skills and try to win another competition. The tone of the sequel would also differ considerably from the origin story in the first part, as the characters are not schoolgoers anymore. Life in college comes with its own set of challenges, and because the story focuses more on character development rather than the dance routines, we expect ‘Work It 2’ to be more engaged in the personal journeys of Quinn and her friends.
