Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist Plot: What is it About?

Playlist follows a girl in her late 20s, Zoey Clarke, a first-rate coder working in a tech firm, as she develops a peculiar hearing ability, through which she can now have one-sided communications with the people around her. Well, it so happens that Zoey’s father Mitch has Progressive Supranuclear Palsy – a rare neurological disorder which is getting worse day by day.

Fearing a gift of inheritance, Zoey decides to take an MRI test. Everything goes smoothly until a minor earthquake causes the machine to act funny and Bam! Zoey is now able to hear the personal desires and wishes of everyone she passes by. The weirdly exciting part is, she can only witness them in over the top dance and song numbers. Zoey begins questioning her sanity initially but soon gives up on the idea that she is crazy and accepts that the power she is referring to as a curse, might actually be a blessing in disguise. Now, a nervous but smart Zoey aims at using the gift to help others and also to strengthen her relationships with the ones that matter to her.

The contemporary musical-comedy introduces a sublime moment when Zoey’s father, Mitch, unexpectedly breaks his unresponsive stupor to express his feelings to her daughter via Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors.”
