American Housewife Season 5: Everything We Know

Upon its release in October 2016, the sitcom ‘American Housewife’ opened to mixed reviews from the critics for its predictable storyline and heavy reliance on stereotypes. However, the lighthearted family comedy series managed to strike a chord with the audiences who lauded its placement of caustic humor, Katy Mixon’s performance, and for tackling subjects like body image, OCD, motherhood, consumerism, and classism. The show has garnered a loyal fanbase over four seasons. And now that season 4 has ended, you must be wondering: when will ‘American Housewife’ Season 5 release. Here’s all we know.

American Housewife Season 5 Release Date

‘American Housewife’ Season 4 premiered on September 27, 2019, on ABC and concluded on May 13, 2020, after airing 20 episodes. Due to the impact of COVID-19, the production was shut down in March 2020, forcing the makers to shorten the season from 21 episodes to 20.

The fourth season was initially given a 15 episodes series order. However, because of its increasing popularity, ABC gave a back-order of six episodes, which itself was an indicator that the network was quite happy with the show and would most likely renew it for another season. Also, the show falls in the same vein as ‘Odd Mom Out,’ and ‘Better Things,’ which add to its universality. Therefore, it was not a surprise when we learned that the sitcom has been renewed for its fifth outing. We expect ‘American Housewife’ Season 5 to release sometime in 2021.

American Housewife Season 5 Cast: Who Can be in it?

Almost all the members from the main cast should return to reprise their respective characters in season 5. Katy Mixon will undoubtedly return as the perfectly imperfect mom, Kate “Katie” Otto. Diedrich Bader will come back to play Katie’s kind-hearted husband, Greg Otto. Ali Wong and Carly Hughes will return for another round as Katie’s best friends, Doris and Angela, respectively. Meg Donnelly will reprise the character of Taylor “Sweetheart” Otto, Katie’s daughter, while Julia Butters will return to play Katie’s anxiety-ridden daughter Anna-Kat Otto.

Daniel DiMaggio will rejoin the cast as Katie’s middle child, Oliver Otto. The other returning cast members include Leslie Bibb as Viv, Carly Craig as Tara Summers, Logan Pepper as Cooper Bradford, Jeannette Sousa as Suzanne, Jessica St. Clair as Chloe Brown Mueller, Timothy Omundson as Stan Lawton, and Amarr M. Wooten as Eyo, among others.

American Housewife Season 5 Plot: What can it be About?

In the season 4 finale, Katie stands up for her daughter Anna-Kat, who is bullied by her classmate. Known for never mincing words, Katie confronts the mother of the kid and set things straight. Katie’s eldest daughter Taylor helps her father learn the technique of shooting a three-pointer so that he gives her permission to attend the senior prom and have a gala time with her friends. On the other hand, Katie and Greg’s smart and ambitious son, Oliver, gets emotional when he receives a call from a dejected teenager on the Teen Help Line, who reveals that no one has asked her to be her date for prom.

Season 5 might chronicle some more adventures in the life of the super honest stay-at-home mother Katie Otto and her flawed family. We can expect Katie to shame her fat-shamer and tone-deaf neighbors with the help of her best friends, Doris and Angela.
