5. Anjaana Anjaani (2010)
Ranbir and Priyanka shared such good chemistry in this film that it is a shame the movie failed to cast its magic on the audience. But I cannot stop praising this soundtrack. Each and every song.I repeat. Each and every song is a marvel. If the title track makes you get up and dance in reverie, Tumse Hi Tumse and I Feel Good will make you smile at its simplicity and positivity. However the song that stands out is easily Tujhe Bhula Diya by Mohit Chauhan. It is one of the most painful songs ever and every note of the song breaks you from inside and combined with the lovely lyrics, the song is a masterpiece.
4. Raavan (2010)
The Hindi remake of this brilliant movie was an utter letdown. Abhishek as well as Aishwarya were loud and over – the-top in this Mani Ratnam film. However being an A.R. Rahman soundtrack, there were so many memorable songs.Beera with its spontaneity and rustic feel as well as Behene De which was a musical experience in itself are the jewels in the crown that is the music of this terrible film.Rekha Bharadwaj’s soulful singing in Ranjha Ranjha and Khilli Re also stand out.
3. Salaam-E-Ishq (2007)
I was really looking forward to this movie when it released. With an ensemble cast like this one, it is difficult to go wrong. Though I personally didn’t hate it as much as the critics and other audience did, I was let down. The runtime too didn’t help its cause. But the music of this film was simply outstanding. The title track and Tenu Leke are peppy. Saiyaan Re also is a much more stylish item number than the ones we have at present. Kailash Kher cast his spell on us once again with Ya Rabba. But it was Adnan Sami’s Dil Kya Kare which stole the show. Such wittily written lyrics and a catchy beat make it a very pleasant song which can be played on loop.
2. Yuvvraaj (2008)
This was during the phase when everything Salman did went wrong. All his movies were turning out to be unsuccessful. Just like this. Made on a grand scale, the movie was visually appealing but neither the performances nor the script were up to the mark. If there was one thing that shone, it was the music and the cinematography. Every song had a charm of its own and though the movie seemed quite dated, the songs were refreshing. Lively songs like Mastam Mastam and soulful ones like Tu Muskura and Tu Hi Toh Meri Dost Hai were absolutely brilliant. Personally one of the best soundtracks in the last few years that I have heard.
1. Roy (2015)
I never really understood what this film is about. And I don’t even want to try. This is another snoozefest on this list. But the music. WOW. A movie so boring doesn’t deserve a soundtrack so amazing. Sooraj Dooba Hai Yaaron and Chittiyan Kalaiyaan are two-party tracks that play at clubs 2 years after the release of this movie. Ankit Tiwari and Amaal Malik did a fabulous job. It is a very pleasant and complete soundtrack. Ankit Tiwari’s Boond Boond and Tu Hai Ki Nahi will leave you in a tizzy. They are both magical and are the kind of song you would want to listen to when you are tired or in a pensive mood. KK’s Yaara Re is another soulful track to complete this wonderful soundtrack. Such a shame the movie did not do well at all.Fortunately, the music directors got the credit and acclaim they deserved.
