Golden Globe Nominations: Complete List

In what is often the most accurate indicator of the films and artists to be nominated for Academy Awards, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced their nominations for 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards. One of the few awards to divide their categories into Drama, and Comedy/ Musical, the Globes provide a wider field for films and actors. They also honor excellence in television.

The Shape of Water led all nominees with seven followed by The Post and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri with six. So, what were the surprises?

Ridley Scott is nominated for Best Director for All the Money in the World, the film from which he fired Kevin Spacey, recasting and reshooting all the actor’s scenes with Christopher Plummer. In what must be bitter irony for the disgraced Spacey, Plummer was nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

Greta Gerwig was snubbed as Best Director, a shock given the rave reviews her film, Lady Bird has received. In fact none of the seven potential female directors were nominated, something I doubt will not go unmentioned awards night in this the year of the woman.

Nominated for Best Drama Film are Call Me By Your Name, The Post, The Shape of Water, Dunkirk, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri. Up for Comedy/Musical are Get Out, The Disaster Artist, I Tonya, Lady Bird and The Greatest Showman.
