Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash Season 2: Premiere Date, Characters, Plot

Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash (also known as Hai to Gensō no Gurimugaru in Japanese) is a Japanese fantasy anime television series which is based on a light-novel series of the same name. Written by Ao Jyumonji and illustrated by Eiri Shirai, the light-novel series was first published on June 25, 2013. A couple of years after its initial publication, the light-novel series was adapted into a manga series where Mutsumi Okuhashi served as the illustrator.

The manga series was first published on April 22, 2015, and a year later, it was adapted into an anime television series. Subsequently, Season 1 of Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash premiered on January 11, 2016, and it was an immediate hit among fans of the source material and new viewers alike. Since then, fans have been waiting for news on a second season. Here’s everything we know about the prospects of Season 2 thus far.

Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?

Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash season 1 premiered on January 11, 2016, and the season finale was aired on March 28, 2016. While Season 1 was being aired, a special episode called Hai to Gensou no Grimgar: Furoagari no Kabe ni Kaketa Seishun – One More Centimeter was also released on March 16, 2016, much to the delight of fans.

Yet, in the years that have elapsed since the premiere of Season 1, the show makers have not announced a second season. Although this appears disheartening, there’s no reason to panic just yet. Unlike US television shows, anime shows often have gaps of five years or more between two seasons. Given this fact, there’s plenty of time left for the show makers to renew Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash for a second season. Our best guess is that Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash season 2 release date could fall sometime in 2020 or 2021. We will update this section as soon as we hear more.

Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash Plot:

Being a fantasy show, Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash is set in the titular fantasy world of Grimgar and follows a group of adventurers who find themselves stranded there.

The show starts off with a group of adventurers finding themselves in a strange and fantastical land called Grimgar. With no memory of how they got here and with only a fleeting memory of their names, these adventurers have to fend off all sorts of fantastical creatures. In this new world, the adventurers find that there’s only one rule – kill or be killed.

In this backdrop, the show follows a particular set of adventurers who form a party and try to survive the nightmarish conditions on Grimgar. The party is led by a charismatic priest called Manato, and consists of a nervous thief called Haruhiro, a cheerful hunter called Yume, a shy mage called Shihoru, a kind warrior called Moguzo, and a rambunctious knight called Ranta. Although each member of the party is extremely strong and seem akin to each other, in actuality, they have divergent personalities. Despite having different and often conflicting personalities, the group has to band together and look after each other if they are to survive in the brutal world of Grimgar. Unlike game worlds, Grimgar is a place which has real consequences, and there’s no going back once you die.

Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash Characters:

Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash has dozens of characters, and there’s a handful of main characters in the show. Below, we’ve given you brief backgrounds of each of the main characters.

[WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD]

Manato: One of the main characters in the show, Manato is a priest who starts off as the leader of our group of protagonists. A capable fighter, Manato is described as a defensive tank, and becomes the leader of the group after he brings everyone together. However, quite early in the show, Manato is killed in an ambush by a group of goblins, and the group has to appoint a new leader as they look to survive in the grim world of Grimgar.

Haruhiro: Another main character in the show, Haruhiro joins the party as a nervous thief, but after Manato’s death, he is chosen to become the leader of the group. Although Haruhiro is not particularly powerful when he starts off, he becomes an extremely reliable person after he is selected as the group’s leader, and learns many skills along the way, which transform him into a formidable adversary.

Yume: The hunter of the party, Yume is cheerful and friendly, and has an extremely sharp memory. Armed with a bow and a dagger, Yume is an adept hunter, but is not very skilled with the bow when it comes to combat. For this reason, she prefers to get up close and personal with foes, and uses her dagger to devastating effectiveness in combat.

Shihoru: The mage of the party, Shihoru is an extremely important character in the show. A girl with a short stature, Shihoru is shown to be quite shy and socially awkward, and is not very good at social interactions. However, she is a powerhouse when it comes to combat, and boasts many powerful spells and abilities. That being said, Shihoru has next to no defensive abilities, and has to rely on her teammates to distract enemies while she charges up abilities and spells.

Moguzo: Another main character in the show, Moguzo is a towering warrior and the strongest member of the party when it comes to physical strength. Moguzo wields a giant sword and is almost entirely covered in armour, and in the party’s encounter with foes, Moguzo typically engages the biggest foes. Despite his size and power, however, Moguzo is shown to be a kind character who always has kind words to spare for everyone. He is also shown to be a great cook, and he creates delicious dishes for the party to feast on after battles. However, later in the show, Moguzo dies in battle, and is replaced by another warrior called Kuzaku.

Ranta: A knight in the party, Ranta is also of supreme importance to the group. Despite being a knight, Ranta is not exactly an honourable man and can be extremely loud and rude towards his fellow party members. An extremely skilled swordsman, Ranta is lightly armoured and prefers engaging enemies after flanking them. Later in the show, it is revealed that Ranta is purposefully rude to the rest of his party members as he wants to give everyone some common foe to be united against.

Merry: A priest like Manato, Merry was part of another group of adventurers before she joined Haruhiro’s party following the death of Manato. Reserved and having few words to spare, Merry is burdened by the death of her former party members, and is shown to be an extremely adept healer.
