In July 2024, Guadalupe Garcia Rodriguez was reported missing by his family after he had not come home in several days. His boss at work also reported that he had not arrived there. Upon searching, Rodriguez’s remains were found in his truck. The vehicle had been seen parked in Gwinnett County, Georgia, near Lawrenceville, for several days. However, there was very little evidence to direct the investigation toward a particular suspect. A&E’s ‘The First 48,’ especially the episode ‘Mystery Man,’ examines the details of the case and provides a timeline of how it was ultimately solved.
Guadalupe Garcia Rodriguez’s Remains Were Found Five Minutes Away From His House
Guadalupe Garcia Rodriguez was born on December 9, 1984. It seems that he spent his early years in Mexico before moving to the US in search of a better life. By 2024, he was living near Lawrenceville with his wife, Rosa Quintanilla. The couple had two kids, aged 6 and 2, and had built a happy and simple family home together. Rodriguez worked at a tree-cutting company to support his family. On July 1, 2024, his wife said she saw him get into his truck and leave, but he never came back. His boss at work also reported that he had not shown up since that day.

Rodriguez was reported missing, and on July 3, 2024, around 12:30 am, police found his truck on Paden Cove Trail near Lawrenceville. It was standing at the entrance of a townhome community, barely five minutes from his house. Inside the vehicle, Rodriguez’s remains were found. He had been shot twice, and an autopsy also showed that he had been strangulated. People in the area said they had seen the vehicle sitting there for a couple of days but did not think much of it, as they assumed it had simply broken down. An investigation to get to the crux of the case was immediately launched.
Guadalupe Garcia Rodriguez’s Killing Was Allegedly Motivated by a Land Dispute
The detectives working on the case did not get a lead until about a month later. That was when they found out that Rodriguez had purchased some land in Mexico from the father of his ex-girlfriend. The sale and purchase had allegedly not turned out amicably, and the ex-girlfriend’s father had wanted the land back. The detectives then arrived at the ex-girlfriend’s house in Lawrenceville. She has not been named in public records. Reports state that their conversation with her eventually led them to Mario Rene Lopez-Jolon.
Mario Rene Lopez-Jolon is Likely Facing Murder Charges in Georgia Today

Mario Rene Lopez-Jolon was arrested at a hotel in Huntsville, Alabama, in August 2024. He was charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies. According to the latest official update available, Lopez-Jolon was awaiting extradition to Gwinnett County from Madison County, Alabama. Since then, there appears to have been limited public reporting on the case, so it is not clear what happened after his arrest or whether the case has proceeded to trial. Lopez-Jolon may still be awaiting further court proceedings, but without more recent public records or official updates, his current legal status cannot be confirmed.
