Single out any movie of K K Menon, each of them is filled with his brilliance. The movie might be a mediocre attempt but the audience remembers it for him. Whether it be his voice or his demeanor, he completely goes into the depth to his character. And he delivers it with a resounding presence. The scene in ‘Gulaal’ where he delivers his speech to demand a separate state, is one such example. Hence, he is a special actor and movies like ‘Haider’, ‘Gulaal’, ‘Shaurya’, ‘Sarkar’ and ‘Black Friday’ reflects exactly that. Also, I don’t think the Bollywood fraternity has appreciated his brilliance except a few.
5. Hrithik Roshan
Hrithik Roshan has the looks. He has the moves. His acting skills are nothing to scoff at. Basically, he is a complete package! ‘La La Land’ with Hrithik anyone?
4. Manoj Bajpai
He is the Kevin Spacey of Indian cinema. Manoj Bajpai has done numerous roles and they have been nothing short of perfection. Recently, he portrayed a character of a gay professor who loses his job over his sexuality in the movie ‘Aligarh’. He is absolutely amazing. Manoj Bajpai is simply sublime. There is a scene where he simply sings a Lata song while its been played on the radio. It’s a very simple scene but the beauty of the scene is so sad and full of warmth that it makes you take notice the subtlety with which he acts. All he needs is some good PR and he shall have his break.
3. Nawazuddin Siddiqui
He is a revelation. The world of theatre runs inside him. He imbibes every aspect of his character. While he has starred in several projects that gained international recognition like ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ and ‘Miss Lovely’, he never had had a chance to really work in an international project — not counting blink-you-miss role in ‘Lion’. He is brilliant, we all know that. Dear Hollywood, you are missing out on a really good talent.
2. Tabu
Tabu has survived the patriarchy of Bollywood. And she is the only actress to have done a range of very challenging roles. She had a very hollow start. But her growth has been inspiring and mind-boggling since then. Movies like ‘Astitva’, ‘Chandni Bar’, ‘Virasat’, ‘Maqbool’ and ‘Haider’ are an insignia of her immense talent. If there is an act in any actress in Bollywood, then She is the one. Every movie she has done, speaks volume about her talent. Hence, it’s about time that Hollywood absolves her of The Bollywood stamp and gives her a well deserved break.
1. Aamir Khan
Mr Perfectionist. He is perfect at everything he does. His choice of movies. The backing of his production house to the new directors. Co-actors. The stunts. Everything. He gives it all to his movie and his heart is seen in every role he does. Also, he makes sure that he gets the look of his character right and works on every detail. The hair, the beard, the accessories and the weight. Typically, actors in the west are more professional than actors in India, and if there is one actor who is a living example of what it means to be committed to a project, it is this man.
