10. Apur Sansar (1959, Bengali)
Apu Sansar marks the ending of Satyajit Ray’s Apu trilogy. Concluding the tale of Apu showcasing his adult life and the struggles he faces, the movie was loved for the trademark realistic nature and hard-hitting story telling of the Apu movies. The movies received the National award for best movie and various other international awards.
9. Shiva (1989, Telugu)
Shiva announced the arrival of a legend named Ram Gopal Varma into the film industry. The movie revolutionised action movies in South India. The iconic scene where protagonist Shiva pulls out a cycle chain with his bare hand is until today regarded as the best scene ever. Starring Malayalam superstar Mammootty, Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha is set in 16th century South India. It’s about a great warrior wrongly framed of a crime and is presented in the perspective of the protagonist. The naturally made drama is widely regarded as the best malayalam movie ever, and recently ranked third in the survey conducted by IBN live of The greatest Indian movies ever.
