‘Legally Blonde 3’ is an upcoming American comedy movie which serves as the sequel to ‘Legally Blonde 2: Red White & Blonde’ which itself was a sequel to ‘Legally Blonde’, based on the novel of the same name by Amanda Brown. The movie will release 17 years after the first movie and 15 years following the film’s sequel ‘Legally Blonde 2: Red White & Blonde’. Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah who first made the film adaptation from the Amanda Brown novel are in final negotiations to pen the script.
‘Legally Blonde’ original producer Marc Platt will be joined by Platt Productions president Adam Siegel for the newest film, but will also team up with Reese Witherspoon to produce under her company Hello Sunshine. A director is yet to be secured for the forthcoming picture, however Robert Luketic directed the original movie.

As of now only Reese Witherspoon has been confirmed to reprise her role as the idealistic lawyer, Elle Woods. Further casting has been under wraps.

MGM has confirmed that the film would be released on Valentine’s Day in 2020.

The Legally Blonde franchise has been a cult-favourite film for nearly two decades; it even became a hit musical in 2008. While plot details are not available, the movie is expected to be drawn on modern lines. It is to be noticed that the movie is going be a sequel releasing 17 years after its prequel. This is a very unique development since such a time span between movie sequels is rare.
In my personal opinion the movie is expected to be quite different from its prequels considering the fact that a lot has changed in 17 odd years. It is not just the times and generations but also production values, cinematic vision, feminist themes, environmental consciousness and audience expectations. Based on the life of an efficient female lawyer who takes up causes she cares for, the upcoming movie could make her aspirations resonate with whatever the filmmakers deem relevant. A movie worth the wait!
