In the first trailer for Paramount’s ‘Terminator: Dark Fate,’ Linda Hamilton brings back her iconic character, Sarah Connor from the 1991 movie ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day.’ ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’ is the sixth installment of the ‘Terminator’ franchise and a direct sequel to ‘Judgment Day,’ directed by James Cameron, reports THR.
The teaser shows Hamilton back in action as Sarah Connor. But, she has good company this time in the sequel as she is joined by Grace (played by Mackenzie Davis). Schwarzenegger appears with a salt-and-pepper beard that hints a deviation from his robotic sleek face of T-800.
The teaser also gives a taste of the intense action scenes in the movie. The first look hints that like ‘Mad Max‘ and ‘Blade Runner.’ the ‘Terminator’ franchise goes back to its roots to revive its legacy. The tightly packed teaser trailer implies the R-rated sci-fi franchise gets a new life and new faces under the mentorship of the franchise’s original auteur, James Cameron. ‘Terminator: Dark Fate,’ brings together Linda Hamilton and series creator James Cameron for the first time after ‘Judgement Day.’
Cameron is producing the movie which is directed by ‘Deadpool.’ director Tim Miller. The previously released first look poster gives story credit to Cameron, Charles Eglee, Josh Friedman, David Goyer, who is known for ‘Man of Steel,’ and Justin Rhodes. ‘Interestingly, both Goyer and Rhodes get a separate “story by” credit in the poster. The screenplay is written by Goyer and Rhodes with Billy Ray getting a separate credit as a screenwriter.
When the first footage of the movie was screened at CinemaCon in April, it garnered positive reviews. “Only a script, story, cast director like this could bring me back,” Hamilton told THR about her decision to return to the franchise. She called it “a once or twice in a lifetime event comes along that you can’t turn away from.” According to Paramount, ‘Dark Fate’ is a “return to the intensity, grit, and spectacle of the movies that first captured our imagination decades ago.”
Cameron launched the franchise with the 1984 flick ‘The Terminator.’ The movie features Sarah Connor (played by Hamilton) as a woman who is hunted by an assassin T-800 (played by Schwarzenegger). The T-800 comes from the future to eliminate the threat of Conner’s future son John Connor who is destined to lead humanity in rebellion against machines in the years to come.
‘The Terminator’ was followed by ‘Judgment Day’ in 1991. After ‘Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines,’ in 2003, the franchise went into a hiatus. It took 6 years for the robots to return with the 2009 movie ‘Terminator: Salvation.’ The franchise again went into oblivion for 6 years before it turned up with ‘Terminator Genisys‘ in 2015.
