Magi: Adventure of Sinbad Season 2: Premiere Date, Characters, Plot

Magi: Adventure of Sinbad (also called Magi: Sinbad no Bouken in Japanese) is a fantasy anime series based on a manga of the same name. Written by Shinobu Ohtaka and illustrated by Yoshifumi Ohtera, the manga was first published on May 8, 2013. Three years after the manga was first published, it was picked up for an anime television series and Season 1 of Magi: Adventure of Sinbad made its way to viewers’ screens on April 16, 2016. Although other shows, namely, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic and Magi: The Kingdom of Magic, have been set in the same universe, fans of Magi: Adventure of Sinbad have been eagerly awaiting news on a second season of the show. Here’s everything we know about the prospects of Season 2 thus far.

Magi: Adventure of Sinbad Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?

Magi: Adventure of Sinbad season 1 premiered on April 16, 2016, and since then fans of the show and the manga have been awaiting news on Season 2. Unfortunately, Season 2 has not yet been confirmed, despite there being more than enough source material in the form of the manga series, which ran up to 2018.

That being said, two other shows, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, and its sequel, Magi: The Kingdom of Magic, are set in the same universe and follows events 15 years after the events of Magi: Adventure of Sinbad. However, the latest show in the Magi franchise, Magi: The Kingdom of Magic, failed to generate the kind of interest the first two shows did, so it’s unclear whether the franchise will continue as far as anime adaptations are concerned. Our best guess is that in the unlikely scenario of the anime getting renewed, Magi: Adventure of Sinbad season 2 release date could be sometime in 2020 or 2021. We will update this section as soon as we hear more.

Magi: Adventure of Sinbad English Dub:

Although the show is originally in Japanese, Magi: Adventure of Sinbad has a good English dub, which has been praised by many viewers. There are thirteen episodes and each one of them is equally engaging and filled with mystery and magic. You can catch the English dubbed episodes on Netflix.

Magi: Adventure of Sinbad Plot:

All the anime shows / manga series in the ‘Magi’ franchise are based on stories from Arabian Nights are are retellings of the adventures of popular characters from the collection of Middle-Eastern folk tales. Magi: Adventure of Sinbad, is one such retelling. The show, and the manga series, is a spin-off and prequel to Magi: Labyrinth of Magic, and follows Sinbad the sailor 15 years prior to the events of Magi: Labyrinth of Magic.

The show starts off in a small, impoverished village called Tison, which is located within the dominion of the Parthevia Empire. In this village, a boy called Sinbad is born to a jaded former soldier called Badr and his kind-hearted wife, Esra, and Sinbad’s birth sends off a surge of radiant energy across the land, thus informing those at the pinnacle of magical might that the “Child of Destiny” has been born. Despite having the weight of destiny on his shoulders, and despite the economic instability in a land ravaged by war, Sinbad has a fulfilling childhood, and grows up leading a cheerful life. However, Sinbad’s seemingly perfect world comes crashing down following the arrival of a mysterious stranger and tragedy befalls him and his family.

Years later, when Sinbad is more grown, he finds that strange edifices called “dungeons” have been erected throughout the land. While no one knows how these dungeons came to be or who made them, they are rumoured to be places of great power with treasures beyond imagining. Yet, despite attempts by thousands of adventurers and armies to claim these treasures over the years, none who have entered these dungeons have ever emerged from them.

In this backdrop, Sinbad sets out to make a name for himself, and a kind deed on his part leads to a meeting between himself and an enigmatic traveller called Yunan, who is far more powerful than he lets on. Moved by Sinbad’s tragic story and his towering ambition, Yunan directs him to a dungeon which he claims holds the “power of a king” and can make Sinbad powerful enough to change the world. Sinbad thus commences his journey to become a dungeon conqueror, and the show chronicles the trials and tribulations he faces along the way.

Magi: Adventure of Sinbad Characters:

Magi: Adventure of Sinbad has dozens of characters, among whom a handful are considered to be main characters who are central to the anime show. Below, we’ve provided brief backgrounds of each of these characters.

[WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD]

Sinbad: The main protagonist of the show, Sinbad is shown to be a laid-back, fun-loving, and good-natured person who is prone to getting drunk and doing outrageous things. He’s also quite the charmer and a ladies man, and is not shy to use his charm to get what we wants. Despite these tendencies, however, Sinbad is can be very serious when required, and is honoured and respected by friends and the general populace at large. Sinbad is also one of the most powerful characters in the series and is a supremely skilled swordsman who is adept at Magoi Manipulation too. Starting off as a young adventurer, Sinbad soon becomes a dungeon conqueror, capturing seven dungeons. He also becomes the King of Sindria and the leader of the Seven Seas Alliance, and is a king who is widely respected by all his subjects.

Yunan: An extremely powerful character, the enigmatic Yunan is later revealed to be one of the four Magi living in the era the show is set in. Known as the “Wandering Magi”, Yunan has the power to raise or collapse dungeons at will, and does not appear to have any affiliation with any party. A young man with a slightly feminine face, Yunan’s incredible powers are masked by his frivolous personality and kind-natured approach towards people. In the show, it is later revealed that Yunan has already lived and died eight times, and his present life is his ninth reincarnation. Despite having lived for centuries, Yunan is really taken aback when he hears Sinbad’s story, and says that it is extremely rare for humans to be born with the kind of powers Sinbad has – in fact, he even calls Sinbad’s birth a “miracle”, something which happens every 1,000 years or so.

Apart from Sinbad and Yunan, other characters who are pretty important to the show are Sinbad’s Eight Generals – Ja’far, Masrur, Sharrkan, Yamraiha, Pisti, Spartos, Drakon, and Hinahoho.
